going to be playing farcry 2, fear 2, fallout 3 on my native res of 1680x1050. I want to be able to play near max settings. does this make sense?
 
Hell ye, don't let those say it is only for super high res put you off, even at that res games with AA are needing power and unless you upgrade every gen(which you may do) i see no problem with gettings the best you can.
 
yea i tend to ignore those that say:

"if you're not going to be running at 12 billion by 8 trillion, you dont need a card that powerful"

i want all my games to be set at ultra high settings with maxed AA and AF with no lag during normal play. dont mind a hint of choppiness every now and then, but i dont want any lag at all. im not looking to get 150+fps, i just want it to be very very playable at maximum gfx settings.

it has to be pretty.
 
really only one option then, especially with fallout 3 as it runs a modified oblivion engine no? And a pretty oblivion still needs a beefy gfx card to run at high settings so who knows what it will need let alone with mods.
