3870 x2 review

Looks great in my book, just found my new card, what is the intended release date for the card?
 
Supposed to be tomorrow, although The Inquirer is reporting it got pushed back to the 28th. We'll have to wait for official word. The NDA is being lifted tomorrow though, so we should be flooded with more reviews and benches.
 
Lol. I bought an 8800GT recently. I have until the 31st to return it. I am debating whether to return the 8800GT for the 3870X2. Providing it's released on time.
 
Its amazing how many people ive seen bashing the reviews so far saying it doesn't perform as good as they'd hoped. Its like everyones expecting 100% improvement in every game which would be impossible with sli or crossfire.

Agreed. The bottom line to me is that we have a new card that outperforms everything else on the market (8800 GTX/Ultra, etc) for ~$450.

Now show me Quadfire!!
 
same here just got an 8800gt which im prolly gunna return. Anyone have any idea on a price-point for this bad-mother??

The second review claims that it's a dustbuster in the noise department. The last one claims "What also came as a pleasant surprise is that the card was not very noisy even after hours of gameplay. It has its peaks, but these are far and few. As for the overclocking, we neither had time nor wanted to torture the card with that as well. Why would we?"
 
there is about a 15fps difference in crysis benchmarks from one review to another @ 1600x1200.

I believe this article is stretching it a little too far so I don't lend too much validity to it:

However, they never even tested an 8800Ultra in any one of they benchmarks, so how can they make that claim?

Also, if that is a dual-gpu card, why did they only use SLI'ed 8800GT's? they should have included dual G92 GTS's, GTX's or Ultra's
 
dual gtx ultras and new gts's cost at least 200$ more and this card is single may be it has two gpus but it takes only one slot
 
Does this card need a PCIe 2.0 motherboard? Some chinese charts I was looking at showed the card doing 20-30% better on 2.0, which sort of defeats the purpose for me. I'd buy this card if it would let me get near crossfire/SLI performance on my P965-DS3 motherboard, but if I'd have to upgrade my motherboard anyways to PCIe 2.0...then it's hard to see the point of this card. It would be better for me to just get SLIed 8800GTs if I already have to buy a new motherboard, which will likely destroy this card performancewise.

I'm guessing you mean 1 PCI-E slot, as it takes 2 physical slots on a mobo.

If I had to guess it was a matter having x amount of time, and y amount of products put it head to head against. It shouldn't be too hard to estimate the numbers that the Ultra would pull over the GTX, and go from there.

If this is the case then that really sucks for me too. I have a p35 express mobo and it would completely suck if I bought one of these and have it handicapped by 20-30%. Looks like I might need to upgrade my motherboard again :(

Wow, that's a cool looking card. Good to see ATI coming back with some good hardware. Now maybe NVidia will get off of their asses and start delivering some new hardware, too.

Price gouging would be when the prices are set unfairly high.

The 8800gt's were simply subject to supply and demand. They started out at about $240-$250 depending on MiR or specials. Prices went up as they were constantly out of stock.

The MSRP is $259, OC editions are what most people look at, and see the higher prices. I can go on Newegg right now and get any brand 8800gt for $260, $250 for the Evga even.


I doubt the boom will be as high for this card, mostly because it's $450 which is not the budget value of under $300, others are waiting for the 9 series nVidia, and then not to mention lots of people hopped on the 8800gt/gts 512 bandwagon.



We'll see.

Quite the opposite..... All those people with Intel chipset motheboards will find these cards very attractive.

I know I dont.I am just dying to see a slew of comparisons and reviews of this and a 8900GX2 :) For 450 to 550 Cdn thats a damn good deal for either card.

Then when the new shit arrives,I'll sell the above or throw it into my wifes gaming PC and get whatever is fastest come the Fall. :cool:

Agreed,I use Intel almost exclusively and cant wait to grab one.
 
Like normal all these sites and different info and inconsistant results. I suppose some level of variation is expected but not to the level we're getting in any reivew of the card thats been published. I also love this crap about one site saying the cards loud and another saying its as quiet as the 3870 regular because its using "pretty much the same fan design". Wtf have they even looked at the fan? Looks nothing like the 3870 fan it looks a lot more like the 2900xt fan. :confused::confused:
