3870 x2 overclocking help?

I just installed my 3870 X2... the thing is, no Overdrive option shows up in CCC. Is this because I used 2 6pin PCIe connectors instead of 6 / 8? My power supply is more than up to the task and has plenty of amps to spare, so I'm not worried about the connector, BUT, how do I overclock this thing?

In Rivatuner, I can only overclock GPU 1... GPU 2 is locked to 300mhz (low power 3d setting) and I can't get any overclock to "stick"

Is there a way to force CCC to give me Overdrive back? Or should I just STFU and give up?
 
If I recall you had to use the 8 pin connector in order for the overclock feature to possible. You can get an adapter to turn 2 4-pin molex connectors to the 8 pin pci-e power connector (check newegg).
 
Well, I overclocked one of the cores in Rivatuner. It's weird. I ran 3dMark06 at different core speeds between 825 and 905 and all completed, but the higher I went, the lower my score became.

Weird.

Do I have to OC both cores to see an advantage? I'm now leaning toward the possibility that overclocking this thing is more trouble than it's worth.
 
If you had the 8-Pin installed, it would be no problem to overclock. I have 2 X2's, and I have all 4 cores overclocked through the overdrive panel to 855/955.
