3870 problems!

Where to start. I got a PColor 3870 yesterday and installed it. Already had 7.12 downloaded and everything seemed to go fine. Used CCC to do some overclocking. When it got to 860 core it hard locked (I knew that might happen). Would lock up a few seconds after it got into desktop so I had to reinstall the drivers. Could figurre out how to get CCC to check the memory clocks so I tried ATItool but that was all over the place and clearly doesn't work well with this card yet. When I manually set the overclock in CCC and tested it and applied it, I reran Aquamark3 but got the exact same score as default!

Tried ATI tray tools and as soon as you try any kind of over clock even to find its max settings, it immediately blue screens. The drivers that came with it don't even recognize a card and the only thing it will install is c++ and hydro vision, can't find any drivers or CCC.

After cleaning all the drivers again and reinstalling 7.12 with CCC, CCC won't load and there are no error messages! Never had any problems like this before so I need some help. Has the card died? Thanks

Update: I downloaded 7.11 and CCC now comes up. I still don't see how to get it to check the memory since it will lock up when it reaches the limit of the core. Also, why does it say core current setting is 300 at the bottom of overdriive?

When I get into ATI tray tools, it shows that the bios settings are 775/1126 but says the the current settings are 13 each! Is all this normal? Please help

Also when I have CCC test the max core the fan never speeds up regardless of the temp.!

Hmm.. I just got my Powercolor 3870 yesterday from the egg, and tho I do not have your exact problems, as CCC loads fine and all, Auto Tune runs, but using CCC if I go over the default 1170 in CCC for my memory,( card defaults to 800/1170 in ccc as Powercolor stated it is 800/1200), I get an immediate lockup in games even tho tested fine thru CCC.

I think that the bios on the card/s from Powercolor are flakey IMHO. My card is water cooled right now, under stress temp is 25c,(via temp from ccc). I run my water in a loop from cpu to vid, chilled water at 48 to 51f, so am pretty darn sure heat is not an issue/shrug.

The hard lock is due to the bios having a limit on the core speeds. get the new bios and flash the card to get above 860 on the core.

As for the 300mhz in overdrive, that's the new tech they implimented that reduces clock frequencies when the card isn't in heavy use. that's probably the lowest it will go, so that's the bottom of the slider.

Has anyone tried Winflash? I cannot find any instructions for its use. I haven't ever tried to flash anything from DOS as in ATIflash. Which is easier?

If you can copy files to the boot drive, fire up DOS and type, ATIFlash is pretty easy

Code:
ATIFLASH -f -p 0 FILENAME

Restart the system and you're done.

If you have two cards in Crossfire, for the second card use:

Code:
ATIFLASH -f -p 1 FILENAME

Right now I am in the process of sending this card back. It won't even overclock properly with the original bios.
