Just installed my sapphire 3870 card tonight. Fans way too loud. Single slot card. Whats my options? This thing gave me a headache..lol...im goin to bed. Ill check back tomorrow. Thanks.

Uh...did that cowboy. I have it at 25%, runnin 40 deg right now. I just find it annoying as all hell. Its in an sff so im not sure about goin passive room wise. I guess ill see if I get used to it til the weekend, but dont think im gonna. Its a low rumble. Imagine you have a Raptor workin REALLY hard, with this at 25% I still cant hear my raptor which gets loud. Again, annoying. Who knows, at this point the damn things goin back I think.

Hm......I guess the 2-slot cooler is better then..I can barely hear mine and its running at 50%.

My Club3D 3870 has a annoying "roar" to it, can easily hear over the other fans of my case, very annoying. At fan speed 23% it is silent but at 40% (which my new Bios default) its annoying as heck.

Ok, I got tired of hearing this piece of shit. Thought about returning it, but decided to experiment instead. Nothing was hitting the blades. When I had it out and spun the fan I couldnt hear the fan itself make any noises. So I had a look at the blades themselves. Theres 14 blades. They're pretty thin. I "flicked" one with tweezers and it made a twang. So I figure the blades are too thin, and vibrating when the air pressure kicks up. So I broke out my side cutters and took off almost 1/4 inch on every blade. I threw it back in my pc and its a helluva lot quieter. No more rumbling, or vibrating. I can actually hear my raptor again on anything under 50% fan speed. Right now, at 25% its still around 43-45 deg. at idle. Played COD4 for an hour and it hit 65 deg. but thats as far as it got. So im pretty sure cuttin down the blades didnt hurt anything. Cheap fuckin design I know that.

No room. Its in an MicroFly. I might go passive next month if I go back to Intel when I get my bonus check. For now though itll work. At least it aint givin mea headache anymore..lol

Just hope the card doesn't crap out on you. You've officially voided any warranty on the card in doing that.

Glad you got the noise problem fixed..Now Im having a heat issue with mine..All of the sudden it jumped up 17 degrees just on idling.. So I took it out and made sure it wasn't full of dust and that the airflow in my case was the same..Totally confused now..argh..!

I dont think the cards gonna crap out, the temps are 2-3 deg higher. So voiding the warranty is no concern to me. Besides, wouldnt be the first time I voided the warranty on a pc component. Its pretty commonplace for me..lol.

Hope you get it figured out. These 3870's are junk IMO. Has plenty of power for my needs, but the basic design seems pretty flimsy, cheap. Good luck.
