3870 driver issue

I just recently bought a Sapphire 3870 from tigerdirect. I was pretty happy about this upgrade from 2 x1600 pro's. I installed the card and went to install the driver and found that it left me with no sound. I looked up this issue on the internet and found out that the driver software tries to install a HDMI sound driver. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it without the HDMI driver and was unsuccessful. If anyone can help me on this issue that would be awesome.

What OS? If you're in Vista, doublecheck what its using as its Default Sound device.

oh sorry, I am in Windows XP 32 bit edition.

I have onboard audio from my intel mobo and the default device that runs my audio is sigma tel audio and that is listed as the default device.
