I've just noticed my hard drives are running really hot, and in the process of getting a front case fan my supplier has suggested I upgrade my power supply.

Currently I run an Antec 380W quiet power supply, one that came with my Sonata 1 case. In the case I have an Athlon X2 4800+, a 6600GT, and 3 seagate barracuda drives (1 IDE, 2 SATA), plus floppy and DVD writer. Peak power consumption, as I figure it, is 120W (CPU), 15W/hdd, and 80W for the GPU, total of 245W. Is that 380W power supply enough?

Thanks for any advice :)

You're fine. I have a 7800gt, Opty 146 @ 3 ghz, 3 drives, and I'm consuming 150w full load.

Thanks Bbq :) More opinions are always welcome too.

I wonder, is my online supplier not very knowledgeable, or just trying to sell something?

I have a system much like yours ---

Athlon64 X2 4400+
On card video.
4 SATA drives, 1 PATA drive
4 TV input cards

It is hard to draw much power. Idle is under 100w. Full load is under 150w. Measurements made using a Kill-a-Watt device.

Excellent, thanks for the information, either my vendor isn't very knowledgeable or wants to sell a power supply.
