Ok, so I see Newegg has the 3800X2 back in stock for socket 939. I have been wanting to go dual-core for a while, but do not know which provessor will benefit me most. I do want to overclock this thing (regardless of what I get), but I am up in the air on which proc to get.
3800X2 -
Pros - Cheaper, higher multi
Cons - 512k cache, requires more voltage?
Opty 165 -
Pros - Known overclockers, possible good stepping from Newegg, 1mb cache
Cons - Low Multi, a few bucks more than the 3800x2
The 9x multi puts a sour taste in my mouth because I don't think my board will go up past 260-ish. The 10x multi of the 3800x2 will allow me a higher overclock (potentially), but I am not sure what the stepping is for this new batch of processors. The Opty 165 may have some good steppings left in the pipeline, but like I said before the 9x multi discourages me a bit.
I use my puter for gaming occasionally, but mostly used for ripping and burning DVD's.
What are your thoughts guys?
P.S. I could always sell my de-lidded Opty 148 CACJE stepping to make up the difference in $$$ needed for the Opty 175 and it's 11x multi... That's an option... and (hint, hint) my Opty may be up for sale if anyone is interested.
