3800+ X2 Overclock question

Ok, I know all about the stickys for overclocking...etc. Just wanted to put that in there before someone post 'read the stickys/guides'.

Now for my question. I just got a new 3800 X2 for my office pc. I'm not interested in overclocking it out the rear end. I would like to overclock it about 200 mhz, equal to a 4400.

What would be the best way to do that and just squeeze out an extra 200 mhz?

Go through the whole 9 yards and drop the mulit, up the FSB, up the ram...etc.

Or is there another way to just do a small overclock? Can't just up the multi...of course...it's locked :(

Suggestions appreciated!

Well to gain 200mhz all you have to do is raise the HTT 20mhz. That's usually obtainable by most motherboards. The only thing you have to worry really is whether your ram can do 220mhz. If it can, then you're set. 200mhz really is a quick easy.

I'd say just raise the HTT and test the Ram. Adjust timings/voltage until the Ram is stable. Then Prime the CPu. Its almost a sure thing that you the 3800+ will go to 2.2ghz without a voltage increase.

I had to raise the CPU voltage to 1.34 or 1.35v i think. Ram was set to 2.69v.

Keep it at stock voltage, and then increase the voltage of the ram and run memtest. Then if it passes memtest without any problems, then boot into windows and start running prime95. Since this is a dual core, you'll need to run two instances. If it gets through without crashing overnight, then you should be good. Otherwise, increase the voltage a bit.

Those x2 3800 chips can easily push 2.4 on air cooling alone. FYI my X2 with the cheapest value RAM I salvaged out of a friend's broken computer booted at 2.34. For that much of an overclock, I doubt you'll need to change any setting except the FSB, to 220. I say go for 225 (A prettier number in cpuZ), and you could probably get away with undervolting your processor a bit to reduce heat.

Thanks for the responses...going to work on this tomorrow. Since this is my work pc...I run some book keeping software and other apps on there that I need a stable pc. Didn't want to oc it to much and it start screwing with things and corrupting data or stuff like that. That's the reason for just a little oc :D

not trying to hijack...

but what do you thnk i could get out of my 4400+, g.skill extreme 2gig, a8n-e mobo? stock cooling

Not at all...good question...because I have a 4400+ X2 in my home pc. So, fitting question, by all means...

My bad. Ignore everything I said before.

Stable OC at FSB = 220MHz with 1.328v. Ram at 2.69v.

my pc right now

and its stable
