Okay so i traded and got a toledo core 3800 X2 the stepping is CCBWE 0529RPMW

and they guy I got it from says it will do 2.6 @>1.5vcore.
I believe him and he said he got the CPU up to 2.9 on a chilled loop....

I am having a problem and I dont know what it is.... so i'll describe it.

I can get it to prime stable for about 4 hours (havent gone any farther yet) at 2.5 if i rum my ram around 200mhz.... now my OCZ ram is rated to run at ddr500 and I have used it with my opteron 144 all the way up to 270,... Samsung UCCC chips

if I try and run the CPU at 2.5 with 1:1 divider it will prime for about 15min and then it just shuts off.... like I mean cold OFF not BSOD nothing just power off.

I have an OCZ powerstram 520w PSU

I would really like to push this CPU but I am getting frustrated and I dont really want to tear my case part and reinstall windows in order to find my problem.... but if I can figure this out by monday that is what i will be doing....

my temps are 45 laod with 1.475vcore and ambient of 30*C or 83*F

My best guess is overload protection in the power supply. I assume that nothing else was changed after you got the X2 3800+?

yeah nothing else changed.....

you think 520w isnt enough... also I have noticed my PWMIC and chipset have been getting hot...

with my case side on PWMIC got up to 70*C and Chipset has seen 60*C but I have had my side off and a fan blowing right over the pwmic right now priming PWMIC is at 47 and chipset is at 50

I was running my chipset at 1.8vcore DFI and i just lowered it to 1.6v and I am at 20min prime stable

maybe overheating chipset... I ahve a waterblock on it but I dont think it is making good contact and I think I am going to remove it this week... no real benifit (other than silence.. damn DFI mag fan was really loud) and seems to make my CPU run a little higher...

Yeah, usually the PWMIC is safe around 50-55C, but 70C is pushing it though they are made for 120C. You would get beeping sounds coming from SmartGuardian before it would shutdown automatically.

I'd still be looking at the power supply as you have increased your load on the 12v rail by adding the X2 to your system. You also have a 7800GTX which is a very gutsy card.

Just a shot in the dark, but you're not running coretemp.exe to monitor core temps are you?

yeah I am and coretemp says 56*C load which absolutly sucks if it is true... I am on water and running 1.5vcore and that is really high!!! the other temp monitors say around 45...

I have noticed that the difference between ondie and mobo is negliagble idle but gets to be around 10-15*C load which is a hell of a lot..

concidering removing my IHS and either puting some AS5 and recapping or run naked...

what do you all think...

also I am getting 30min stablitly (all i have tested so far) at 2.595 but when i go to 2.6 with in 3 mins it fails...

I had my opteron 144 running at like 320x9 before so i dont think its my mobo?

I will look into a PSU but I really thought my 520 OCZ would be fine even with a SLI set up but I could be wrong...

If you're running coretemp in the background while you're Priming, try doing a run without coretemp.

I spent 2 weeks testing my X2 3800+ for a max overclock and kept running into this problem where my rig would either:

* shut down completely without warning (total power off, really weird)
* reboot spontaneously without BSOD
* freeze up

Come to find out after nearly pulling every damn hair out of my head, it was Coretemp causing the problems somehow. I would start my priming sessions and leave coretemp.exe running so I could monitor temperatures. After some time (minutes to hours) bam, my rig would power itself off!

I began thinking about it and realized that this didn't start happening until I started using coretemp. Sure enough without coretemp running my rig is completely stable... I had it priming for over 3 days.

So if you were leaving coretemp running, try not running it AT ALL.

I know it's weird, and it may not even be your problem. But it could be worth a shot. :)

yeah i had a similar experience with speedfan and the NV firewall drivers also..

this is so wierd I get 38sec prime with 2.6 and 1min 38secs 2.595

this is not making me happy :)
