3800+ impressive number!

For single thread it is, though if You want Your smoothess when multithreading thne go X2 way.

Let We say 4200+ X2 (actualy two 3500+ together) will kick 550 ass in all posible scenarios.

finally someone tell me. the 4200 is equal to a 3500, i didn't know that, thanks.
why do they call it 4200? do they think we are stupid?

Well, firstly you did not specify which type of 3800+ it was. Did you mean Athlon 64 3800+? or an X2 3800+?

The 4200 is a dual core processors. It's comparable to one single core 4200 processor. Or, you could compare it to two 3500 processors.

Same thing with the X2 3800 - it's like having two 3200 processors in one computer.

because in multithreaded programs, that's how it performs. do some searching around when the X2's came out and you'll see that there were a lot of jokes and insults made about this numbering scheme.

say, is a 3800+ faster than my p4 550, 3.4ghz? anyone with both know?

Considering I made the jump from a 3.4GHz Pentium [email protected] to a A64 3800+. I'll answer that. The answer is: In games and some 3D Apps, most definately. No doubt. Even against my OC'ed P4. In general desktop use and multitasking, no way. SInce all I did was play games, the A64 was a good fit for me at the time. I did miss my multitasking experience of the P4. Which is one reason I went Opteron.

How does HT multitasking compare to a true dual proc config?
an almost but not quite. it's good if you don't have to really do heavy multitasking.

Fact is I wouldnt even consider any amd cpu ulness its the new duel cores and other fact is the amd x2 3800 or higher will beat a pentium in every aspect just superior cpus plain and simple. I recently purchased a amd x2 3800 have it now clocked 2.8ghz thats a 800mhz clock increase over stock 2.0ghz and just think about it a x2 4800 runs at 2.4ghz im 400mhz over that hehe
