37" sharp Aqous LCD for gaming?

Hi, I'm in the process of buying a Sharp Aquos LC-37GA4E LCD TV for the bedroom/computer room along with other a/v stuff. What would this be like connected via DVI for games? It's res is only 1366 x 768 would this matter? Especially if I were sitting quite close to the monitor?

I was planning on buying a Dell 2005FPW for the actual PC monitor and possibly buying another for a dual monitor setup later however with a large 37" LCD just sitting next to it I'd imagine I would feel like gaming on that? If I do game on that then there would be no need for a widescreen monitor and I'd prob beest to go for a regular 1600x1200 LCD for internet browsing and office apps and if so which monitor? the FP2001 maybe? I can get the 2005FPW for under £500 delivered so I would be looking at similar price for a different monitor.

All ideas welcome.

If you mean DVI for PC gaming, it should be fine. If you want to play console games, no consoles support DVI, but the next-generation might come with HDMI support (my guess.)

Go for it. You don't really have to worry about image quality on a Sharp.

you'd need to define "quite close" for us to really be sure. .. and if you say 3' I'm going to ask if:
1) you've measured properly
2) you've tried it from that distance.
barring that... you'll love it. absolutely fantastic screen.

1366 x 768 just doesnt sound very high-res esp if you need to use the monitor for tasks done in 2D.

A little better than your 1024x768 but then this is on a huge screen.

I tried 1024x768 on my 43" plasma. Ok for movies but not really sharp enough for 2D websurfing, graphics, word processing etc. Depends what else you do other than gaming.

I saw Sharp being bundled with Dells in Japan at the shops. Resolution is not so great. May be good as a TV/DVD/Computer "entertainment centre".

Ok just to clear a few things up (which I didn't in my first post)

The 37" sharp is being bought anyway for a tv and will be connected to a PVR and DVD player however it will be residing on my computer desk as that is the best place to put it (it's a big desk and goes well if I want to watch telly in bed). My logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers will be simultaneously connected via optical to my PC and TV. I don't own any consoles thus no console gaming.

I will then be buying a computer monitor for the PC, I was planning on buying a Dell 2005FPW 20" widescreen as I would like to game in widescreen. When this is all setup the TV and the monitor will be practically next to each other so I'd imagine I would feel compelled to play my games on the bigger screen if the resolution would be ok. It would be connected to a 6800u DVI as will the other PC monitor (SLI dual 6800u's).

If I could game well on the 37" Sharp (depending on whether I can use keyboard/mouse combo or the gamepad gaming distance would vary from 2 feet to 10 feet if needed) then there would be no need to go for a widescreen PC monitor and instead a regular 20" 1600x1200 as I think internet browsing and other office apps would suit a 4:3 ratio opposed to 16:9. So I then ask the question of which 20" LCD to buy? Perhaps the Dell 2001FP as they can be had for quite cheap these days, hell I might be able to afford another one of these at a later date for dual monitors.

Watching movies and such will obviously take place on the sharp.

Apart from the Sharp being smaller and more high-res, the sharpness issue is a problem for Plasma displays when using them as monitors. LCDs generally display much sharper text etc than Plasma screens. However I'd maybe wait a while for a 37" 1920x1080 display, there are rumours some will be released soon, though they'll probably be quite a bit more expensive...
