360 vs PS3 reliability

The store demo units are supposed to lock up, if that didn't happen then someone could stand in front of the unit playing demo indefinitely while other's don't get a chance. I have not heard of consumer models locking up. I tried Maiden 2007 on the 360 demo unit and it crashed too after 4mins.

If you believe that, I've got some prime bridge real estate to sell on ebay. Please use the buy it now option.

I'm sure both of the store units for the PS3 and 360 lock up from time to time. If you put your computer in an unventilated case it would lock up too.

I've only seen 1 of each locked up but then again I don't go to electronic stores that often because I always spend money when I go.

I remember hearing how a Sony rep said they were meant to lock up, so people just didn't keep playing them. Personally I think that's complete B.S. They've never done that with previous consoles, and store/electronics workers don't want to have to keep going over to the units, opening up kiosk displays, to reset the machines. I don't think the lock-ups were the cause of PS3 hardware, but probably the Motorstorm demo running on it, which was THE game that always seemed to be locked up when I went by.

Got the PS3, played motorstorm for quite a while, have yet to have a lock up. I paused a ps2 game and left the unit on for 1hr and it has not locked up.

That is a load of BS. Nothing looks worse than a malfunctioning demo machine of a consumer product that people are considering buying.

The motorstorm demo on the kiosks is different from the downloadable demo and the retail game, so its plausable that's the case. It hasn't been really proven that overheating was causing the units to lockup (although if someone wants to put their PS3 into a sealed box to test... :) ).

This was a while ago, and most likely a much earlier build of the demo available for the public to download, and of course the full version of the game. This was going on before Motorstorm even launched, and was available on the Playstation Network. I can't remember the place I read the article, but the demo was replaced by an updated version that didn't have this lock-up "feature" ;)
