I'm likely buying one of the new 4GB 360's for my wife for Christmas and was curious about the support for USB flash memory drives. Some searching around showed that they clearly work for savegames and apparently demos - but can they work for DLC? Nothing huge - just items like the Fallout add-ons and Mass Effect missions.

Also, I'm seeing that you can use up to 16GB sticks (apparently 2 at a time) - is that pretty much set in stone with an un-modded system?

Anything else I should know or a reason to buy the model with a HD instead? I already have one with a large HD that we can use if needed.

yup, you can use them for anything you want. Saved games, DLC, system updates, demos, full game installations, photos, music, movies, etc

AFAIK, you can ONLY partition them up to 16gb (which is incredibly lame IMO). There is no real limit that I've heard of on how many you can use, as long you have an open USB port it should work just fine.

I have an older non slim system with a 16GB flash drive.

I think the interface between the USB flash drive is minorly slower than a hard drive, but that's seriously minor.

Certain game modes in retarded games like Halo Reach require a hard drive installation or else they won't play, but I see that you have a hard drive.

You are good to go IMO.

Yeah, this is going to be a system really only for my wife. She loves games like Mass Effect, RDR, and Fallout so this will keep her from having to wait for me to finish :) I've got a disk on my system just in case something comes around that needs it, but I'd rather save $100 and get her 2 games instead of the system with a hard disk.

You can use a USB drive just like you would an official MS HDD. Anything can be stored, saves, DLC, game downloads etc..

edit. I bought my wife her own 360 as well. She was using both mine and my PC too much so enough was enough.

in the long run its probably just cheaper to get one with the HDD
