Is it system tampering when you take the stock a/v plug that comes the 360 and pull the plastic off so you can use it and an hdmi cable at the same time? I'm in a battle with another forum and they swear up and down that this is tampering..

I'd ask MS and use that as the final word

Tampering is if you open the system. If you are making that fit by modding the cable only no your fine because you are not messing with the system. You don't send in cables during any ms service it's always the console only. What you are doing I have heard of people doing before, again you aren't physically altering the unit itself. BTW I am an Xbox ambassador and have been asked this before. I take it you have a older model where the optical out is on the cable?

That's what I thought, I have 1 box on my monitor with a dvi to hdmi.. For audio I'm using the cable it comes with and converted it to 3.5mm to some speakers.. And was told that was system tampering and the thread was locked.. It just iterated me that they would give no answer and accusing me of tampering..

Yeah your fine plenty of people have done that. They only care if you open or mod the console itself, that's the only thing you send in never the av cable.

All you did is make this. Microsoft put some waste of plastic on the cable that ships with the xbox so you can't use it and an HDMI cable without buying one from them.

OP: This is how my Xbox was set up for almost 3 years. My older monitor didn't use HDMI so I picked up an HDMI to DVI cable for picture and used the analog out to a receiver (popped the plastic case off the end).

Microsoft even provides a cable which allows you to do exactly what I did above. You'll be fine.

Edit: Demon1000 provides a link to the generic version of that.

Definitely not tampering with what you're doing. Tampering would be when ya crack the case open which requires breaking the "tamper" seal in order to do so. Of course you'd only do this if ya wanted to look around inside the 360.......

How is it tampering? If you have to send it in you dont send the cables anyway.

or fix a red ring or dvd drive. Ive fixed about 3 rrod xboxs and one bad dvd drive so far, all pretty easy to do but require you to open the xbox right up.

Thank you all in your replies, I'm just tired of forum trolls who have no idea what they are talking about bash what you say. You can see that I'm a hard stalker but I fallow plenty of threads just don't feel the need to speak up.. I'm just done trying to help on the Xbox forums..

No problem. The Xbox forums are so bad. You should see some of the questions we get as ambassadors. The worst forum ever is the Nintendo support forum its full of people with all the wrong info.

Back in the day they said you voided your warranty by using 3rd party peripherals. They are definitely lightening up on the rules.
