I've been debating this for a long time. I'm not really a console guy, but for some reason I want one, prolly to play the games that I can't play on my PC.

The 360 has a boat load of games and some of the ones I really want to play (mass effect, forza 2). Great online play as well.

The PS3 has better graphics IMHO. Wider use (folding, Linux) and some other games I really want to play (Resistance, Ratchet & Clank).

I cannot for the life of me decide, the price is really to close to say PS3 is more expensive, $50 more for the 40gb version. Not worth a argument.

PS3 seems to be buggy with some games, but the 360 has the RROD.

So really, help me decide here. Then again, maybe I should say the hell with it and stick with just my PC.

Well your just going to get alot of opinions about peoples systems but I really like my 360, but Im a big halo fan and other FPS like COD which run great on it. As for RROD the 3 year warranty takes care of it if you dont mind sending it in or buy it from Costco so you can just return it and get another one all within 10 min.

Just a couple of comments...

--360 RROD is less of an issue now.
--Get which one has the most games you want to play.
--If you're looking for a better online experience, maybe you should get a 360
--If you're looking for a BR player, maybe you should get a PS3.
--You could always do a search and see the millions of other ps3 v. 360 threads that have been posted in the last 3 years.

What he said. At the end of the day though it just has to come down to which systems has the games you want to play. The 360 runs most multiplatform games better, but that's becoming less of an issue these days.

why even bother starting a thread like this?

go play both of them at bestbuy or something and see what you like, your games wil be limited but it should give you an idea.

I have both a 360 and a PS3 and I'm curious as to why you think the PS3 has better graphics? I did some testing borrowing a friends 360 games that were the same as the ones that I owned/rented on the PS3 and came to the conclusion that there wasn't much difference, but the 360 games get the slight edge for color saturation and in some cases (Madden 08, NFS Prostreet) a better framerate. I'm not going to give you pros and cons for each system (I've already done that in many similar threads) but I'll just say that if I could only keep one then I would be saying goodbye to the PS3. It really comes down to which system has the exclusive games that interest you most..

Exactly. The first thing I'd do is look at the exclusive games that are out now, and will be out in the not too distant future, for both systems. Or maybe there's one particular genre you realy prefer, that might have better representation on one system, over the other.

Asside from some minor differences, the 3rd party, multiplatform games, should provide similar experiences. A particular version might be a little bit better then the other, with some sharper textures, maybe better lighting, or even smoother frame-rate, but unless you own both consoles and decide on say the 360 version because of some of those minor details, you probably won't lose any sleep over it.

After games you can look at the secondary features of the console, such as the media capabilities, online content, etc. For some people this might actually be their primary feature, but I view both systems as game systems first and foremost.

Wow, people are quick to judge.

I started this thread because I did my research online and here at the [H]. My pro's and con's are solid and well thought out. I was looking for more specific answers that I have not seen answered.

I have played both, both were tested on my setup at home and how I would use them. Component to my 21" gateway running 1080i and 720p. Don't get me wrong, both looked great, but the PS3 was much crisper IMHO. (Drakes Fortune on the PS3 and Mass Effect on the 360, bad comparison I know.)

i think I am most impressed that a thread with the title of "360 or PS3" has gone this long without a "PS3 SUXORS" or "PS3 PWNS 360!!!".

I personally like to read threads comparing the consoles--but only if people can do it in a mature, civil, manner.

I would just like to congratulate all that have posted in this thread. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

VGA cable for the 360 is much better than the component for a pc monitor.

I think past the online play, looks, controllers, etc., it will all come down to what games each system has that you want. Many games come out for both the 360 & PS3, but the exclusives are where your choice will be made.

Well, duh. Mass Effect has a film grain filter on by default that artificially reduces sharpness in favor of a movie-style look. Try Gears of War vs. Uncharted and then get back to us.

I'd get a 360, personally. Better online, better media, better games, better controller.

(As for Mass Effect coming to PC, maybe in a couple years. Remember how much everyone cared about Jade Empire's release for the PC? Just buy it for the 360!)

360 has better online, better controller, larger library of triple AAA games (at this point).
PS3 has bigger hard drives, integrated blu-ray, wi-fi built in, and a bright future for upcoming games.

It all boils down to personal preference. Check and see what games you want to play and see what system they are for, then make your decision. Also, what do your friends have i.e. do they play online and if so, on what system?

Really bad comparison unless you turned off "film grain" on Mass Effect...it looks like crap until you do that.;)

edit- didn't see someone already mentioned that..

The graphics are the pretty much the same for both. Both have some good games. Early multiplatform games on the PS3 were worse off generally since they were ports of the 360 versions. It has been better recently, with the exception of the Assassin's Creed bugs.

Folding works well on the PS3 but Linux isn't much a feature unless you don't have a computer. It is crippled by low memory and a lack of access to the graphic's chip.

I have both, and enjoy the gaming experience more on the 360. Especially since Mass Effect *drool*

When I bought a PS3 last week, I have posted a rant thread on my dissapointment. Right now, I want to take back everything I have said, system is great! I have owned a 360 in the past, and I definately prefer PS3 over that. BR is awesome, upscale is great too, sound is terrific and controller is nice. Selection of games in Blockbuster is way smaller, and some ports from 360 have FPS issues, but besides that I love it. I would take a PS3 over 360 anyday :)

True, but if you can afford both, you'll be happier in the long run.

True, thats why I wish they made a cheaper version of the PS3 like they do for the 360 since I already have a 360.

Frankly this debate comes down to 2 things IMO.

1) Which console has more exclusives you want (360 was it for me)
2) Is the Blu-Ray Player a big deal to you (it is for some)

Coming from a PC gamer and owner of all 3 next gen consoles. I would have to say PS3 currently has the better lineup when it comes to adventure games and implementation of racing games. I'm currently getting my multiplayer FPS fix via pc games.Keep in mind neither console will replace the multiplayer FPS experience of a pc.

I love browsing porn websites on the PS3. Very clear images on the 1080p LCD.

get a PS3

most good games on the 360 are also on the pc and FPS 100X better on PC.

and the 360 will more than likely have another price drop soon after christmas to boost it's sales in the non peak season.

L.o.l

Love these posts.

Well I'll tell you this much, I have both also and I love my 360 but I'm currently on #5 so needless to say the build quility is still shit. I just had #4 die on me with a faulty drive and the 3 year warranty only covers the RRoD, not faulty drives, etc. The Ps3 is finally coming into it's own in my opinion and I do believe the PS3 is a more capable machine and if you're a graphics whore and a adventure junkie uncharted is the best imho on the market. And I'm not the only onehttp://www.gametrailers.com/player/28089.html?type=.

But it's pretty much going to be a toss up, both have their ups and downs. But if build quality is a top priority well then .....:)

I agree with whoever said to compare secondary features and intangibles, because gaming-wise, they're pretty much equal. The reason these threads always fail is that people always spin facts in their direction. For example, someone said that the PS3 linux is "crippled," but it isn't meant to be compared to a full-fledged PC. Even with low ram, it's still able to serve as a media hub and run circles around the Wii or 360 for retro emulation. Someone has said that the 360 netplay is better without really explaining why or bringing up the fact that it costs $50 a year while the PS3 is free. I don't think anyone has mentioned noise yet and the 360's 12x drive is a big offender compared to the PS3's 2x blu-ray drive (higher data density = lower spin speed). Hard drive upgrades are easier and cheaper on the PS3 as it will accept any 2.5 drive while MS restricts you to their own offerings in a sort of throwback memory card sales model. So yeah, it's not to say that you won't be happy with the 360, but the PS3 has its advantages that weren't as apparent a year ago when the console itself was simply too expensive for people to care.

Well, being that the Playstation 3's online play is free (a real plus I might add) it certainly has that advantage over Live, where you pay a 50 dollar a year fee (cheaper if you look for deals). However, Live does offers the following:
  • One gamertag/account across all games.
  • Access to your friends list, Xbox Live voice and text messages, and MSN Messenger messages, across all games or while viewing media.
  • Game invites and cross game invites available in all games.
  • Player feedback to rate and re-find prefered players, and avoid players you review as negative.
  • Voice chat in all games, with the exception of two online RPGs, if I'm not mistaken. (still some might see voice chat in all games as a bad thing :) ).
I don't know if the PSN has a rating system for players. I haven't played any online matches on a PS3, but there are certain features, required on Live, that are left up to the developer on Playstation. The thing I like about Live is things are made standard, so you expect, and get basically the same features no matter what game you're playing.

Asside from the fee, the only other downside to Xbox Live, in my opinion, is a real lack of dedicated servers. Certain games allow you to run a 360 as a dedicated server, though there's MUCH more players simply hosting games on the system they're using to play (and every now and then you find people who's connections are somewhat poor, for hosting).

Why have one? when you can have multiple free accounts? I have a 3 PSN accounts, 1 for Tekken, 1 for game sharing, 1 for normal use. Opposed to one XBL account which I pay for.
Themes? free too

Compare the best exclusives for each platform and pick the one with the games that most interest you.

I really like the blu-ray feature on my PS3. If you go xbox 360, consider the HD-DVD add-on drive. Both have some great titles and quite a few overlap. I also like fps games but prefer to use keyboard and mouse... so I went with the PS3. If I wanted to play fps with a controller, xbox would have more appeal to me.

Ratchet and clank is very fun!

Except for the PS3 does not have PGR or Forza 2 which are the two best racing games out right now IMO :p

Also saying 360 games are mostly on PC is kinda BS....

PGR, Forza, Halo (yes it will come to PC...but takes years, look at Halo 2), Crackdown, Saints Row, are all great games not on the PC.

And while yes FPS are better with a keyboard and mouse IMO (lets not get into that here though) , some games are still better played on a console. For example I think the Call of Duty series (have not played 4 yet though) all are much more fun on consoles for the way they play through and such.

My problem is I have yet to see any games that really turn me on to the PS3, about the only one I really want to play is Gran Turismo...but for me Forza has always been better in the past anyways.
