360 optical audio?

I just tried to connect a 360 to a 5.1 system with the optical audio port and got nothing. The red light comes out of the end of the cable that plugs into the receiver, but no sound is played. I've tested this exact cable and receiver on several other devices and it works fine. Is there a setting in the 360 dashboard I'm missing? I couldn't find anything myself.

already did, no go. It's not that big of a deal, I'm just using the speakers on my Westinghouse for now, I'd just really prefer the 5.1
 
...trying to remember, but it's been awhile. I thought dashboard has a couple of settings you need to 'click on'...play around in dashboard, and make sure it's set-up properly on receiver.
 
Works fine over here. You do have to screw around in the dashboard to set it up, but it wasn't particularly difficult. Might want to check your optical cable, too.
