Are there any out there besides Forza 2 ? I don't care for the arcade racers with gimmicky turbo boost and powerup bullshit....

I love FM2, but it's getting kind of boring with lack of tracks and no new cars....

Dirt, Grid? Forza 3 is supposed to be announced at E3, so you may have to wait for that.

project gotham racing

Not a race SIMULATOR....the PGR series, while sometimes fun, is mostly arcade style.

Dirt is also arcadey...I would love Gran Turismo, but alas, I have no use for a PS3....

Guess you'll be waiting for forza 3 then, not that many racing sims out there anymore beyond a few of the big names.

race pro is rubbish. loads of bugs and poor framerate issues. 30fps on a racing game says it all

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......reading up now, looks kinda promising? Are the cars tuneable?

Yes, a whole a lot...maybe too much. To the point that you don't even know what certain setting is supposed to do. As much as they are considered "sim," the game needs to revamp the graphic engine. GTR still uses the graphic engine from F1 2001!!!!!!! Looking forward to the Need For Speed Shift. :)

Cannot wait for Forza 3. NFS speed shift and Dirt 2, both out in the fall, should also be good.

Out now :
Forza 2
Race Pro

Upcoming :
Forza 3
Need for Speed : Shift

If I'm not mistaken, the title of this thread is racing sims. The majority of what has been suggested are arcade racers. Forza is not a sim.

It is in console land. 360 updates per second on the physics side of things, real-time telemetry changes, good damage modeling (cosmetic as well as engine) which affects the way your car drives/handles/accelerates/slows down and realistic tire wear. Driving lines that actually cut time off of your laps and a points system that punishes dirty racing and rewards clean, skilled drivers... sounds pretty sim-ish to me.

It might not be connected to a PC monitor and you may not have G25 support, but grab the MS wheel or a Logitech 360 wheel and Forza feels pretty much like you're driving a real car when you take the "cheaters" off and learn to drive the cars.

Probably the closest consoles will get to PC sims for quite some time. Forza 3 should vastly improve upon the system they've pretty much already got nailed down.

Race Pro is far from rubbish. It's quite good actually. I suggest Race Pro. As was said above, the vast majority of titles suggested here were not sims. Race Pro is.

Wrong. Forza and Forza2 are VERY hard if you turn off the ABS, traction control, gas and brake lines, etc. I have friends that "love" car racing games....NFS, etc....until I let them try FM2 on full realism settings...LOL....they could barely get around a corner without sliding out, hitting a wall, or locking up the brakes and skidding into something or someone....needless to say, they did not like Forza2...

The first sentence of the op's post clearly named forza 2 as a sim. While its certainly not as detailed as some other (pc only) games, he made it very clear what he was looking for. Just because there are some games that are more realistic doesn't make forza not a sim.

Yup, Forza is a sim. It's not an ultrasuperhardcore sim like rfactor, but it's a sim all the same.

If you want the best sims, look to PC sims. rFactor, GTR, Live for Speed, iRaciing and others. Unfortunately most are quite a graphics downgrade from Forza 2, however, they have in car cameras, which to me is a must for any simulator.

You've pretty much got Forza 2 and Race Pro on the sim side of things. Otherwise you've got games like GRID, Test Drive Unlimited, the PGR games, Dirt, and a few others, but those are far from being sims, even in console land.

As for wanting an in car view, I actually dislike it. Why do I want to see another steering wheel and such on screen, limiting my view, when I've got the wheel in front of me. Takes away from the immersion for me. Now, if only a new game would come out that had a view from the dash a bit to the left, where you pretty much just see the windshield, left a-pillar, and a bit of the dash that would be far better imo. In a car you are focusing through the windshield to the road. I don't want to have to look past the wheel in front of me, focus through the monitors pov, past another wheel and dash, and through a windshield to the road which now has 1/3+ less viewing space.

Then again I am still looking for a good 360 F1 game, but I don't think there is even one. Was reading something about the rights and stuff going to sony or something, idk.

Pretty much all PC sims you can turn the wheel off. I usually play so my G25 wheel is aligned so its just a bit lower than the top of the dash on the virtual car, and turn the virtual wheel off. I find this gives a much better sense of immersion.

The hardest thing to get used to is the field of view, the field of view is usually set higher than what you actually see (ie, game displays 90 degrees, but you are too far away to view your monitor at 90 degrees, so everthing is smaller than what it should be) but this is a problem with bumper/roof cam too, its just you notice it more in the interior view. It all depends how big your monitor/TV is and how close you sit to it.
