Ok guys,

I am getting a little antsy cause like a few of you, once everything is working great I have a tendancy to want to go and mess it all up. So that brings me to overclocking. I was wondering if there is a safe, painless, easy way to overclock my 3500 newcastle to 2.4gigs. I am not asking for an astronimical overclock here, just something to get me started.

I tried the asus AI overclock tool in the bios, and it seemed really unstable, cause my browser would run really slow, and my games would just exit out to desktop, and I only did a 7% oc. It has since been put back to stock for now.

I would like to avoid anything to do with volts, or changing memory timings etc. Even though it is a newcastle, I have it running well below 40c while under load ( well my load is playing games for a couple hours). I am running a xp90 and I have a 120mm intake, 80mm intake, 120mm exhaust, and 80mm exhaust.

My mb stays from 17c- 22c, and my processor stays from 25c to 34c. This is according to asus probe, so I am assuming they are fairly close. I have read a couple reviews on my memory and people have had luck getting it to 220 and 230 mhz. However way to much for me, Just want to get to that 2.4 range stable.

Here are my specs if needed:

Asus A8V deluxe
AMD 3500 @ 2.2(stock)
1 gig geil ram (pc 3200 2.5-4-4-8)

Have you tried just upping you FSB? Why do you not want to mess with voltage or mem? It is very simple. Voltage you jsut bump a bit and mem you can leave on auto and change to 2T and maybeuse a divider
 
what kind of crappy ram is that... unless i'm missing something, you better get better ram first before you up the fsb
 
i have tried upping the front side bus, but I can only go to 206. It runs fine at about 210-215, but I can only play games for about 20-30 minutes before it just shuts the game down and goes back to desktop. The sad thing is, at 210, it is only a few mhz over 2300.

Any suggestions?
 
sorry i forgot to give a response to the volt/divider question. I guess it that is the only way I can do it, I will. I am not sure how to set a divider. I have clockgen, but when I make the changes there, it doesnt save after I restart. I changed the FSB in bios, can I change the voltage there too?

BTW, I dont know if this has any affect on it, but I am ordering a blue storm PSU soon, could my maddog psu from compusa hold me back at all?

In my bios it allows me to do 2.5,2.6,2.7, 2.8, they rate my memory to be able to handle 2.95, so what should i put it at? I just want to get to 2400 mhz, maybe 2500 if I can get it stable. RIght now I am sitting at 207 mhz x 11 multiplier.

and it says ddr voltage, is that the one I want?
or is it the other one?

ok well let me update. I seen some people say in their reviews that they have gotten the ram to work at 230-240mhz, and the site says it can max out at 2.95v. I have tried stepping up the volts to the memory up to 2.6 so far, and the most I can get it up to is 207mhz. Anything higher and I hit memory errors in games. Is there something I am missing, do I have to put my vcore up too? Do I have to unlock anything on my board, the only thing that seems to be locked is the multiplier, I cant go higher than 11, which I think is standard.

Any suggestions?
