This is a brand new hard drive: 320GB Seagate ST3320620NS.

The problem is that SMART is reporting Failed under "Seek Error Rate" with value:
23 current, 22 worst while it should be more than 30...
I searched and others usually have 60+ there.

I wouldn't notice there was something wrong because it seems to work ok. My HD Tune results are:
Transfer rate max: 79 MB/s
min: 1.7 MB/s
Access time: 22.0 ms
Burst Rate: 176.7 MB/s

The only thing that I don't like is the terrible seeking noise that this hard drive makes (very loud and different clicking sounds). I don't know if that's normal with today's drives...

One other thing - HD Tune is reporting that UDMA 5 (ATA/100) is active but UDMA6 (ATA/133) is supported.

Is this drive going to fail or what?

Run the seagate tools, if it reports that error, call Seagate and replace the drive. While it may still be running, its not worth the risk to keep it.

Yes, the Seatools tests fail too but don't show any details as to why.

I may try returning it since I ordered it only a week ago.

Any recommendations what other drive could possible be better?
I need 300-400GB.

Seagates are fine drives. If you are looking for another drive, I'd suggest a WD320AAKS.

I would contact Seagate to get that one RMA'd though.

seagates are no worse than any others. its been proven that 90% of all drives that fail, do so in less than three months. its caled infant mortality syndrone oddly enough. just be glad its only been a week and anything important is probably still on another drive still. you should definately rma it. once one error occours the drive is 30% more likely to have catastrophic failure. there have been a could of good linked reports about this on [H].
