so would it be stupid to get a 7800GT now???

with all sources pointing to a 7900gt being launched in 2 weeks for the same price with immediate availability...yes, bad time to buy

So if we see Quad SLI with 4GB of Video Memory that would be weird with Windows XP only supporting around 3.5GB. I guess we need Vista soon!
I thought Quad sli only uses 2 cards with memory? Making it 2gb not 4.

Biggest thing in this whole mess maybe Nvidia has something bigger up their sleeve in the future. I never count either two camps ATI and Nvidia because both have alot of money to burn with their high priced video cards. I sitll have 2 7800 grtx 256 meg. Not sure I will upgrade until I see how this HDCP plays out and AMD new socket comes into the light. As they say technology moving forward. I wish these video cards were so much to buy.

What's HDCP?

I'm also waiting for the new AM2 socket and directx 10 cards to come out.

yeah they do but.....i dont think they allow you to step up for free.

ie if you buy your 7800GT now for $300 and the 7900GT comes out in 2 weeks for $300....its a no go for you becuase its going to be free.

however 7800GT -> 7900GTX would be fine.

Folks, look at it logically, a 32 pipe card using memory thats 100 mhz slower that the 512 GTX will be a un-balanced designed as it will be way too bottle necked by memory bandwidth. Besides the number of other credible source claiming its a 24 pipe card are making it almost a shure thing at this point...

I have to agree with Jbirney, it’s getting really close to launch now and most things seem to be pointing towards a 24 pipe card. I would be really surprised if it turns out it actually have 32 pipes.

BTW, another rumor from “TheInq”: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29928
"First tests indicate that in the best case scenario, Geforce 7900 GTX cards are eight to ten per cent faster than the last and rarely available Geforce 7800 GTX 512 card"

Yes, the Quad SLI has just 2GB of memory. 1GB per card. Think of it as four 512MB Geforce 7800GTX's.

An even MORE evil version of copy-protection for video content.

Hi-Def content protection: Something that you get to pay for in order to prevent you from making backups of movies that you buy. It has no other purpose than that, nor does it bring you -the consumer- any image quality, performance or other advantages afaik.

It technically sends the sound data digitally too, but mostly what he said.

wondered why i couldnt make a copy of my dvd's :(

there's a little tool called DeCSS or AnyDVD that helps you do that :)

link plz?
what about one that allows you to put ur movie onto ur harddrive aswell?

why couldnt u have told me that a few months ago? :p

card in June with proper cd-keys needed for HDCP. Plus will also have HDMI connection. Mind you rather see copy protection gone. Just more headaches.
I guess its wait and see approach.

why would they give us 1Gb cards when most of the world is stuck at 256(except the GTX 512 and 1900/1800 owners) and quad SLI would have 2 pysical gigs of ram, just you would only get 512 as the Vram would be mirrored acrossed the 4 cards like in SLI today or somthing like that(correct me if im wrong)

So we're going to use HDMI to connect our monitors? I just don't like that, DVI is alot stronger connection.
