So.... I'm looking for a high quality 1080P 32" TV. I've heard nothing but good about the Panasonic 32LZ800, is this still the one to go for? How does it compare to the Sony XBR6 and the Samsung 550/650? It would be used for Xbox 360/HD Directv/ and Blu-Ray at some point

I got the 32a550 Samsung for 700. I've been very happy with it. The newest 32" xbr is finally 1080p rather than 768p. It looked very good . . . For 700 though I don't think there is any comparison.

I have a Sony XBR6 and love it to death! I used to have an open box Bravia of the 2010 series (720p), but once I got this I was take aback! 720p games look more clean and display more detail if you will. Its not upscaling it, its just making it look good. Plus its got 24p (some say it doesn't, but meh) to use with Blu Ray players. Got mine for a thousand green ones. I use mine with PS3, but I'm sure 360 will look great on it!

LN32A650 here. Great display and I really like it a lot. I have also heard good things about the 32LZ800 too, but decided to get the 650 instead.

at 32" you'll not notice 1 single difference between 720P and 1080P. The only benefit you will have is to say "i have it". And if you play video games, if you set it to 1080, the UI will be so tiny you'll be turned off. I have a 32" and 1080 is just grossly small on it, UI wise.

I would get a 1080p screen so you can run a usable resolution in windows, 1920x1080 res.

If you aren't using it for a PC at 32" 1080p v 720p doesn't really make a difference from a normal TV viewing distance. Then again, the best 32" panels are 1080p anyways. I really like the Samsung LN32A550 (didn't want a glossy screen, the semi-gloss is a great in between for me). The Sony seemed overpriced (similar quality as the Samsung, only way more expensive). I was able to get mine new on ebay for ~$550 shipped so there really was no comparison between the Samsung and the Sony.

How far away do you sit from the TV?

Pretty close. Its for a bedroom and especially when playing xbox im almost right on top of it.

My friends and I routinely make fun of Vizio commercials
You see this awesome sequence of LT making these defenders his bitches- then a big Vizio logo at the end. You know damn well LT isnt sporting a Vizio in his living room! :p

so what are the major differences with the 550 and 650 samsungs other than the red hue to the cabinet?

I'd also like to chime in and encourage you to save some money if you aren't going to have your face right in front of it. 720p is more than sufficient for 32'' when regular TV watching is going on. I have a Samsung LN-T3253H. It's a recently discontinued model but I am quite fond of it. I would assume newer Samsung LCDs also offer a good picture and extensive color correction menu options.

I really really wished Circuit City carried the thing here... who other than Tweeter and online shops carries the Panny?

I was going to get the Panny, but could not for the life of me find it in retailers! Made me so mad! Its an IPS panel and its much cheaper than the Sony and Samung. Personally if I could have, I would have gotten the Panny, but I just can't spend that much money online only to have to return it for dead pixels or delivery bumps and bruises. If you want more saturated colors and don't care for 24p or cinemotion for that matter, than I'd suggest one of the Samsung's. If you want a more natural tone than the Sony XBR6 is the way to go, but I will say that the Sony has strong yellows that can be dumbed down if that bothers you. For gaming, the Sony's gamemode can be tweaked where the Samung's cant. I thought the colors on the XBR6 were going to be really mute compared to the Sammy's, but turns out they can be just vibrant as the Sammy's.

Man CC is making the XBR6 so tempting, down to $999 with 36 months no interest... still I wonder if the next gen of 32" panels will be better, like maybe getting full on 120HZ processing

I just got one of Vizio VO32LF models and have been really happy with it. Got it because I got one of their 42inch XVTs and have been really impressed and needed something smaller for my bedroom. The 32 is 1080p, 3 HDMI inputs, all the fun stuff and really good picture quality. I bet if you wait a couple of weeks it'll also go down in price. Their 720p version were on sale too.
