I think that ATI will release a 295X/290XT/295XT/295X1 at the next announcement, with the full Hawaii XTX die. Is this reasonable?

Hawaii XTX has been debunked.
If anything is will be a Tonga based 290x replacement.
It's been seven years, people. ATI does not exist outside of copyrights and patents.

ATI is the part of AMD that makes GPUs. The AMD part of AMD makes CPUs.
No, ATI does not exist anymore. There is no " ATI" devision of AMD. The only reason the word ATI exists anymore is because of still-existing copyrights and patents the now-non-existent company filed years ago.
ATI still exists.
The question is - can they beat energy efficiency of maxwell and offer more performance while using less than 200w. If not, I'm not interested
If it beats maxwell by at least 20% (OC vs OC), I could care less about heat as long as it's managed properly. I thought [H] was more about M5s rather than Prius's![]()
It's couldn't. You COULDN'T careless. Saying you could careless means there is room for giving less shit.

would a higher core variant of the 285 perform on par with the gtx 980? Does anyone know how much wiggle room they had to add moar cores?

You're not alone... That drives me nuts, too.
Drivers still install software to "ATI Technologies" directory. Strange that they would keep that if ATi is truly gone.
I don't see Nvidia drivers installing data to a "3dfx technologies" folder, lol.

Yeah here on [H] I thought we were a little more concerned with raw pixel pushing power, I dont care about wattage as long as it performs faster than the last gen. 100w in savings is nothing on my power bill during my 5ish hrs of gaming per week, I want to be able to max out my 4K with all the eye candy at a solid 60fps, dont care if it takes 700w or 900w just bring me the performance!

I understand your point, and would love not to worry about power bill. But, I live in country which ahs one of the highest energy prices in Europe. When you take price of 100 kWh to Purchase Power Parrity (how much energy you can buy with average pay), we pay like 25,9 for it (when in Finald it's like 12 and in France 13)... so when the cost of running computer makes about 20% of my power bill, I take a lot of interest in power consumption. And if cards would be pulling 900W, I'd have to move to console gaming, as I could not afford PC gaming.
This is an extremely eye opening aspect that many of us gamers in North America simply do not have to worry about. We really do have relativeley cheap energy here. Hell I've lived in an apt building and have heat and hydro included so I too don't have to worry about the cost.
I almost think it may be better if in NA we paid more for energy as so many people here take it for granted and simply waste energy "because its so cheap".
