This has been bugging me for a while... would there be any difference in signal/pic quality of the following? Screen flicker? Etc.

Dell 30" 3007WFP-HC via DVI-D on video card

VS

Dell 30" 3008WFP via Display Port on video card

I see no reason why they would be different. Assuming they both used the same colour scale and bit rate.

There's more than one variable here as you're comparing different inputs and different monitors. They're quite different as the 3008 has a built-in scaler (for better and worse). In short, of course the picture quality will be different. As for screen flicker, probably not. Input lag - definitely. etc. etc.

I may be overstating the case, but I'm under the impression that all the 30" which have scalers have unacceptable amounts of input lag, while those without scalers are good to go, but only have one or two inputs.

If I understand your question correctly, it may be better answered by the following comparison:

3008 via DVI-D

VS

3008 via Display Port

in which case, there would be no difference.

Depends on what you mean by unacceptable. I could throw a number out there, but if you don't notice and/or it doesn't affect you, would it matter?

All monitors have input lag, regardless of whether it has a scaler or not.

I really cannot see the DP making a difference on a single 3008 compared to 1 DVI-D 3007

The 3008 has a much better contrast ratio and more inputs, and IMO the physical looks is hideous compared to the 3007

The lag scaling is not a comparable issue between the two.

I dont see DP as being superior to DVI-D.. just DVI

Using display port instead of DVI-D gives you no benefit aside from convenience really. DVI-D cords are much bulkier than display port, which is similar to an HDMI cord in size.

But in terms of monitor specs, I think the 3008WFP looks better overall in terms of color and brightness uniformity (I owned both at one point). The difference isn't worth the extra you'd pay for a 3008 though. I'd only recommend the 3008 if you absolutely need the extra inputs.

Not to hijack this, but with the built in scaler how does it work with watching a dvd movie on your computer??
