ok... so you have a big fancy 30" monitor but it doesnt scale

so you have to feed it 25x16 - no problem...

but say you want to game at a lower resolution because you dont have enough gpu to push your native

how exact does that work out...?

say im playing crysis at 720p - what happens on the 3007?

if im using the various scaling options of my video card...

or will the 3007 blank out and not show an image unless im feeding it its full native

i know my gpu wont push all my games to 25x16 ...

It shows the image, just looks stretched and pretty meh. Dont need to do any scaling for it to work by default.

why would it be stretched if the aspect is the same?

both 19x12 and 25x16 are 16:10

so gaming on the 3007 at 19x12 looks bad [stretched and pretty meh]

The scaling is done by the graphicscard so the monitor will actually be fed the native resolution all of the time (same as with a monitor with scaler, just on the other end of the cable),
The scaling options (right aspect, displaying a non scaled image in the center etc.) depend on the graphics driver.

With the right driver settings 1280x720, could be displayed unscaled at 1280x800 with black borders, the 3007wfp's 2nd native resolution (4 pixels function as one).

If it doesnt match up pixel to pixel properly, it will look slightly off.
Same aspect doesnt matter, because 19x12 = 2,304,000 and 25x16 = 4,000,000, and is going to be stretched to fit. The only way I could see it being still normal would be a 4:1 pixel ratio (4 pixels = 1 large pixel). Not sure why I think that, just seems right. (Aside from Benny mentioning it just above, I've thought that for a long time)

However, I'm no expert by a long shot, thats just what makes sense to me as I understand it.

I'm also not sure about 8 series cards supporting it, but I do know for sure that 9/GTX series cards drivers support flat panel scaling in them which has three options: use display scaling, dont scale at all, use nvidia scaling (forces to take whole screen) and use nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio which will manually add in black bars around the image to make it fit at a 1:1 ratio. Pretty sure the 8 series should also support it.

then for now ill live with the g80 - and play cod and hl2

hopefully the boys in gpu business will put out their new hotness here soon
