alright, my brother just got a new proc and vid card in the mail. He ordered a Barton XP 3000+ (not 64) and a geforce 6600... anyway my brother pops in the new CPU and when it posts it comes up as a 2500+. I go in to the BIOS to try and change the FSB and the highest it will go is 166 (which is what it is set to) and its clcoking at about 1.7
does anyone know why this might be happening? do i need to raise the FSB? i tried changing it to manual and bumped it up to 200 (250 is the highest), and the machine woudlnt even get to post, it would just come up for a couple secs, saying "no signal" then the monitor would go back to sleep (i had to remove the battery on the mobo to get settings back to normal). so what speed should i set it to?

and yes, btw, the board does support up to a 3200+

specs:
enermax 350w PSU
Barton XP 3000+ (new today)
EPoX EP-8rda+ mobo
1.25 gb PC3200 ram (geil)
GeForce 6600GT (new with proc)

any help is greatly appreciated

seems unlikely but if its a board bought just after they came out he might have an old bios that doesnt support that cpu.

oh, and just to reduce the variables, run it with just one stick of ram (his best stick) till you get it sorted out.

what is your multiplier set to?also, which version of the 3000+ did you get? 333FSB or 400FSB?

for 333FSB, use 166x13
for 400FSB, use 200x10.5

right now you likely have 166x11 =~ 1.83ghz which is the 2500+ barton.
