This is for a friend, if possible he want's to spend less.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming, Photoshop, Upload/Download
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? Yes
3) Where do you live? NYC (Too far from microcenter.)
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? Everything
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing?
6) Will you be overclocking? Yes, as far as possible.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have? Is a 30in possible with this budget? If not a 24in will do.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? 1 Week
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? Nothing too fancy, regular stuff.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Win 7 RC

I'm thinking he should get a low end card for now, and then get a 58XX or GTX3XX?

If it's worth waiting he will wait till new cards.

This is what I had planned out for him.

The prices on those 30" Dells is too much man. Especially the 3007WFP. Consider purchasing that from Costco. com for $999.99. You can also consider the HP LP3065 30" for $1,060.00 at Provantage.com. The HP LP2475W can be had for a better price from Provantage.com for $508.08

If you buy a GTX260 then I wouldn't recommend a 30 incher. Not enough firepower for gaming at that resolution. I think he'll be quite happy with a 24.

Thanks for tip, He'll probably get the 3007WFP from Costco.

I like the case blazestorm, I'll tell him about it but he's sold on the 1200.

He wants to get a mild OC, 3.6 max...I'll let him know about the Cogage True Spirit.

He plans to get a GTX3XX or 58XX in crossfire or sli, the 260 is temp.

Any reason to get a 3007WFP-HC over a 3008WFP?

I run a 3007WFP-HC with a GTX260 and it's fine, I am waiting for the next gen though...

Ah, sorry about that. I guess I missed that part of the post. Outside of that, the build looks pretty solid. One thing is that the mobo only has support for 12GB RAM. While this may or may not be an issue, most X58 mobos, especially at that price, should offer 24GB of memory.

microcenter isn't too far away from nyc. It's a 1-2 hour trip but the traffic can make it hell. The LIRR also runs near by so you can save ~$50 on the i7 920 if you make the trip. Nothing else there is really worth it.

I'm with HG if you need to buy a Video Card now I'd definitely try to sneak a 4890 in there. Especially for a larger monitor.

Me personally though, I'd get the Intel Gen2 SSD if you can find it.

Thanks! That helped a lot!

Intel SSD Gen 2? I'm sure I saw a Intel SSD that was out of stock on the egg till the 28th, Is it faster than Gen 1?

its not the speed that is whats important and its only slightly faster in random read/writes. The big thing is Intel has stated that the new Gen 2 34nm drives will have Trim support with a firmware upgrade, and the 50nm Gen 1 drives will not.
