they still sold the 3870 / 3850 for a few months after the 48xx series came out. they didn't really stop selling them until the 46xx chips were available.

No you need to buy a card. The new generation will be the preferrence but not complete replacement in just a month. Sept 10 could just be the box office opening, not the concert.
Buy a card on NewEgg and then Craigslist it for the same price later. They'll think it's extreme!!! Millions think Best Buy has legit prices and not gouging for GPUs ($100 for 4550... smh), maybe they look online occassionally but not much. Or knock off $10, maybe make a loyal customer.
I mean sub-$100. No real need for lifetime warranty, per se. Or get an HTPC ready card, the Quadro probably won't cut it.
But this 8600GT will.

But this 8600GT will.you should be able to hold a 58** series in your hands before windows 7 release late october. depending on if there is enough for the demand.
ill probly pick one up around christmas to replace my 4870 just for the dx11 features alone. i dont really care if its better perf. or not i just want to make sure it will make use of dx11 features ok. because then i wont plan on upgrading for 2-3 years at which time i will probly do a full system over haul and retire my Q6600 system to video capture/compression duties
