OK, I am doing some work on my PC and have done a fresh install of XP on my 36 gig raptor and now I am trying to get my 300 gig storage drive up and running. I have an Asus K8N motherboard with two SATA hookups. I am running the raptor on SATA 1 and I have hooked up the 300 to the SATA 2. When I check my bios it is recognizing both drives, yet when I go to run Maxtor's shitty MaxBlast, I get a message that the only drive in my system is the 36. I can't get windows to recognize the 300. It has power and is hooked up correctly. Can someone offer me some advice? Thanks!

try another SATA cable they are known for being problem children

I would also update bios to newest revision >>>> there have been alot of sata detection fixes in those

OK, but the bios I have are recognizing the drive... its XP that doesn't seem to like it.

Update the BIOS anyway, a lot of AMD-based mobos have real issues with a lot of SATA hard drives, especially the Diamondmax 10 that you likely are installing here.

do you have Win XP SP-2 installed ??????? you can make your own SP-2 disk too ?????

you can slipstream or add/ intergrate sp-2 into you windows cd >>>> very easy and free all you need is a burner

here is the jsit of it >>>>> dotn do it this way if you are interested >>>>> I have a FARRRRR easier way .... but if the idea moves you >>>> give me a PM and I will explain a far easier way

Have you tried going into Administrative Tools > Computer Management and format the drive from there?

I have SP 2 installed. I've also tried going into my disk management and its not showing up there.

Upgrade the BIOS and the drivers for the SATA controller in Windows if it's possible. Those 2 steps should give you a working drive.
