ok gurus of PC building here is your chance to test your brains..

I sold one of my EverQuest accounts for 300 dollars (YAY)...

Now I want to build a microATX box...
The smaller the better..

Must Include:
Case
Power Supply
Ram
Proc
Heatsink
Mobo

I have spart parts of everything else!
I don't care AMD or Intel.
Quiet is best!
Must be stable!
 
A barebones SFF would cover the HSF, Mobo, PSU, and case. This model is not the fastest chipset but it is pretty compact:

Biostar iDEQ 210V ... $157 shipped from Newegg

512MB stick of PC3200 of your choice for $65~70 shipped

That leaves $73 for CPU ... that falls slightly short of an AthlonXP Barton 2500+ for $77 or a Sempron 2500+ for $75

The Barton is better of course and the total is $304 according to the prices at the time of writing.

Can't use a mobile-Barton unfortunately because the iDEQ 210V doesn't recognize them. Overclocking? If you're lucky you can overclock the 2500+ to 3200+ by setting the FSB jumper to 200MHz, but the 2500+ has to be able to run 3200+ at stock voltage. Otherwise, no PCI/AGP lock, voltage adjustment, nor multiplier adjustments make overclocking a pain.

And hopefully you have access to OS in addition to your extra parts. If you don't need new, check FS/FT forum to get more bang for your buck?
 
Not exactly a gaming computer but here is a link to a combo including a Intel P4 2.8Ghz CPU and heatsink, PC Chips mobo M955G, and 256mb pc3200 system memory. If you click add to cart and take off all the unnessesary junk but add a 420watt generic case the total price shipped comes to $304.48. Over your limit but only by a few bucks. I have purchased from them before and have have built with this case. The case is flimsy but it is not bad. The only problem with the site is after you place your order they call you to verify your order and sometimes try to talk you into buying something extra. I have never bought anything extra and have always had a good experience with them but then again I have only used them like 3 times. Good Luck and have fun!

Have to run that by someone else but with shipping that's about exactly $300 I've personally never done a micro, that's a decent processor and the mobo supports some nice RAM. but again im not sure so you'd have to run it by someone else.
 
On the forums + newegg I have bought

175 : AMD mobile 2400+ barton, Nforce2 mobo, 512 meg pc3200 kingston value (package)
$100 : radeon 9800 pro (haven't recieved yet)
37.99 : rosewill case + 350 watt powersupply (I have been told that the rosewill one that I bought uses a rebranded coolermaster powersupply)

$312.99, this is all including shipping costs. Too bad it's ATX not micro :(
