3 WAY NVIDIA SLI

2xSLI barely works, why bother with 3xSLI?

I don't know why the fuck people keep saying this. I've been using 2-Way SLI since the 6800Ultra days and it has always worked for me. It is true some games get more bennefit from SLI than others, but I've always had a noticable improvement over a single card setup in every game I've ever played Crysis included.

With this configuration I need to upgrade my house power supply from 110v AC to 220v AC! Almost $2,000.00. PC games are really expensive to run and enjoy.

You shouldn't need to do that. I don't need to. I can run 3-Way SLI and evereything in my signature with my 1200watt power supply and I didn't have to upgrade the electrical of my house which was built in 1969.

:D I know, I was just kidding! but those cards eat lots of electricity juice.

I was reading a 3way sli review the other day and the reviewer was using a kill-a-watt measuring device and under load, the system was only pulling 860+ watts from the wall. So a well built 1k psu would do alright.

Exactly. I know the one I have can output over 1kw if necessary so I am not concerned about power constraints at all.

I'm more concerned about the 780i SLI motherboards and whether or not they'll be worth while.

\Werd!!

For the record, I think SLI kicks ass. I'm all for 3-Way SLI. Sure it isn't for everyone but for those who can deal with the technicial and financial aspects of building such a setup, I say go for it.

My biggest problem is with the SLI compatible motherboards and chipsets. My experience with the higher end boards has been extremely mixed. Yet I haven't touched a single P35 or X38 board I didn't like. Obviously I liked some more than others, but generally speaking all the ones I reviewed were solid boards.

SLI works fine !! argh!

it is certain games, like crysis under vista, it doesnt work, but it is more a game issue then anything else.

Nvidia claims that the 3-way SLI delivers up to a 2.8x performance increase over a single GPU system, giving high-end gamers 60 frames per second at resolutions as high as 2560x1600 and with 8x antialiasing.

I'd pay to see it play Crysis at 2560x1600 with settings on very high.

F yeah!

7800GT SLi smoked my 7900GTX

I saw some pics of someone with a 3x setup with GTXs, he posted some crysis shots with his camera as well. He was getting 45ish FPS according to his 3 or so shots he took of it. It was the ice level (if that makes a difference, haven't gotten there myself, may be demanding). Seems extremely weak for 3 GTXs, I would expect 60-70, even if it's farfetched, but for that kind of money, you damn well should get 60 in Crysis. I'm assuming he ran all on very high @ DX9

LoL Crysis smokes Tri-SLI Ultras. You know Nvidia has to be loving Crytek atm.

Nvidia can use all the challenges it can get right now, I wish I had a 24 or a 30 inch LCD to push those resolutions, let alone have the need for 3 ultras to play crysis.

Well I've got the 30" and I can tell you that I've stressed my setup out more than once with two GTX's. I welcome a third, but I will probably hold off and go 3-Way SLI with NVIDIA's next gen part.

I wonder if the power usage on the D9E will be less than the 8800 GTXs. I have a tons in my rig and I think I may need to upgrade my 1000w PSU already. DAMMIT! I thought this thing would last me at least one build. I've only had the thing for two months.

What power supply are you using? Why do you think you would need to replace it? Three 8800GTX's don't take 1,000 watts of power so you should be fine. Even if D9E has rediculous power requirements, without knowing what they are specifically, there really is no reason to worry at present.

I like the idea for a 30" as this would give me an excuse to buy myself one again as I could run games at native. But only if the 780i is fairly good. I despise the 680i myself as I've had many many die this year and 2 started to eat RAM.

you would, and about $1700 or more for 3x8800 gtx (or whatever comes available), 780i board and 1000watt plus psu. at least i know i will when 780i or 790i drop and work reliably. i ran sli since 6800gt and only reason i am not now is because the 680i doesnt oc the quad too tough.

I'm using the Enermax Galaxy 1000W.. Nvidia suggests 1100W for tri-sli... and if I do that, an overclocked quadcore, 4 Sata drive, 1 sata optical, two pumps and maybe a pci express sound card, if I can find a decent one...

I'll definitely need 1200W, no?

Tri-SLI only actually pulls around 860watts or so.

crysis smokes my 8800ultra sli

:rolleyes::mad:

as an owner of a gtx, on 1920- i say

Crysis needs a F****** Patch from Crytek, and drivers updated from nvidia

these cards are capable of much more...if only the software part was done right.dammit!

Really? What leads you to believe these cards can do better? They do just fine in every other title out there. Crysis looks significantly better than all the other titles out there. Lets also not forget that Crysis has to deal with more physics calculations, more polygons, larger textures, and considerably larger maps and special effects. I think we are lucky the 8800GTX and similar cards are powerful enough to run the game with medium or high settings at 1600x1200/1680x1050 and keep the game playable. I don't think Crysis is poorly written or coded, I think it is a matter of it being too demanding for current hardware. Same thing was true of Far Cry which can now be run at any settings with ease if the system is high end enough.

well it would depend on all the hardware that someone is using.

True. However the tri-SLI systems that NVIDIA sent out to review sites were packed pretty full of hardware. About the only thing that many enthusiasts are likely to need a significant increase in power out put for might be hard drives.

Rich Bastards, Just jealous here :p
A Quad Core and Tri Sli and I wouldn't have to
heat my room anymore.

Best of luck with the setup, and be sure
to post some benches and vids :D

Well my computer room is the warmest room in the house By FAR.

IIRC, the rigs weren't as packed with HDDs and water pimps like mine and I don't want to push 80% capacity most of the time (I forget what the idle draw was on the reviews). I want to be ready for the next iteration of cards also. Do you think it be wise to move to 1200w?
