According to this chart, most of abits socket 478 boards will support the prescott 3.6 and 3.8ghz cpus.

http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/prescott_cpu_support.php

However I have yet to find any online store that actually sells them and nor have I heard anything about them. Can anyone confirm that these will be released? It will be nice to know that I will be able to upgrade my cpu at least one more time w/out having to throw out my m/board, ram and video card.

I was under the impression that 3.4 was the end of the line for 478 and that Intel would transition to 775 for the faster chips using the Prescott core.

Then again since the release of the A64 I haven't paid much attention to Intel

the earlier Prescott roadmaps showed that as Intel was able ween down the power requirements of high end prescotts (down to what FMB1.5 motherboards like IC7 MAXIII, the lastest versions of P4[P | C ]800 support in terms of power), faster prescotts would trickle down to S478.

To date I have not seen or heard anything further about faster 478 chips,
And at 115W for the high end LGA775 chips, I wouldn't hold my breath.

3.4 is definitely the end of the line for socket 478. No new chips will be made for it.

well that just sucks :(

you wouldnt happen to have a link that supports that?

its funny since we all know you can get more than 3.4GHz out of the platform

True but if u start with a 3.8 s478 then u yeild a way bigger oc GHZ wise then with the 3.4..its all about the clocks.

I don't think there has been any official announcement from Intel, they don't usually announce things like that. However, all the roadmaps I've seen show that no new socket 478 CPUs will be released. Also, Intel is trying to push LGA775, PCIe, and DDR2 very hard, so it would be foolish for them to release faster CPUs for socket 478.
