OK,
got a 30 cap 3.0C from NEwegg and dropped it in this morning.
Set FSB to 230, and didn't touch the voltage which is 1.471 default (D1 stepping).
Ran Prime 95 for about 2 hours. Box seems stable, but how hot is too hot for these Northies?

Notice the voltage during Prime95. It was even dipping in the 1.3 range. Should I bump it up to 1.50 or 1.55? It seems stable so far, but 60C seems high. Idle returned to 45 within a couple of minutes. I want to push this thing, but I don;t want to smoke this Processor.

sounds like your gonna have a thermally limited CPU there if you a;;ready pushing past 60C on STOCK voltage  i would NOT go past 1.6vcore on AIR.....
if you can get to 240FSB consider yourself LUCKY ;)

Bumped FSB to 240 and Vcore to 1.5
Gave me 3.619 and it ran for 6 hours of file transfer, 3D Mark03, and some VOB-> VCD conversion. I assumed it was stable. Fired up some COunterstrike and after about 20 minutes I got the "repeating sound loop" freeze and then my PC rebooted  I assume that was overheating I backed her down to 215 FSB (3.4G) and played another hour with no probs. Maybe I need to add an exhaust fan. I know my CPU cooler rocks so maybe I just need more circulation. I was teased with 3.6 and I want it back :D

I have a 3.0c (only 12 caps tho) and the most I can get out of it is 240fsb. It also seems to run a bit warm, and when it's o/c'd it's not really much warmer than stock...maybe a 3-5c. But no matter what voltage I throw at it, I can't hit 250fsb with it....

It's a piece of shit and pissed me off...so I went back to my 2.8c that does 260fsb.

3.5 to 3.7 is the average good oc you will get with this chip, now if thats a prescott that might be why if you have a northwood you should expect that. Now there are some guys getting 4 ghz on air but they got the luck of the draw with thier chips, for me i had a 3.2 that go to 4ghz but with my vapo and only like 3.7 on air.

He's got a Northwood. Those temps do seem really high for the voltage. What kind of mobo, RAM and HSF are u using? Are u using stock thermal or silver? and u are running 5:4 divider I'm assuming.

If you have poor circulation, even if you have a good hsf, you can still experience way higher temps. I'd have at least an exhaust and front fan. I try to use 3-4 myself. It makes a huge difference.

I only have 1 exhaust and 1 intake...but their both 120mm fans that move about 78cfm each...but that's beside the point :p

yes...at LEAST have an exhaust fan...near the cpu if possible. The faster you can exchange that hot air with cooler air the better off you'll be for everything...mb, cpu, ram and all.

I've got a 12cap 3.0C, and my temps read 50C idle, 60C load at stock speeds. stock voltage. I also have an abit mobo (IC7-max3), which typically read the temps too high. The most I could get out of it was 3.55G stable but really really hot (67C) according to the mobo. I ran at 3.5G for a long while, and just turned it back to stock because it seemed like no big performance difference (since I had to downclock my memory since its only DDR400).

I've got my 3.0 at 240 fsb but it is @ 1.72 vcore and running a bit warm.

if you were thermally limited @240 then i would try and reapply some AS5 and add some airflow like the fellas said also do what i did and get a Zalman fan Bracket then place another 92MM fan over the CPU/PMW/NB of you set up and watch some of your temps take a dip my NB stays 2-3C cooler and my PWM stays 18C cooler :D  this most certainly could have an affect on your OC

OK,
system is 3.0C
1 Gig XMS 3200 (2x512)
Swiftech MX-478 w/ 92mm Sunon SUCKING , AS3
9800 Pro AIW
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Stuffed into my Soltek EQ3401M CUBE.
250Watt PS that run HOT AS HELL

The sucking drops temps supposedly because the PSU sits directly above the CPU and has an intake fan on the bottom. That way the CPU exhausts into the PSU intake and gets pushed outthe rear.

I can't decide which exhause method. I can use a 60mm on the BACK of the cube at the heatsink level and have it push/pull, or I can do a blowhole. Any thoughts?

Running 3.5 and change @235FSB, 1.5 Volts.
MBM showed 74C after playing CS for over an hour, yet never sputtered. I'm beginning to think my temp Diode is off.
