3.0c hitting a wall

Currently have a 3.0c running at 240x15 , I can get it to boot at 250x15 but it isn't stable. The bios is set to 1.600 volts and shows up in the health monitoring section as 1.58 volts. I have hyperthreading enabled, will disabling HT allow me to oc further? Also at would voltage should I start getting worried about on a northwood core?

Can you give some more details on the rest of your system?

Most likely it is not the CPU that is the wall but the Memory, Board, or something else. It would be a lot easire to help you if you would post the rest of the information.
 
xp-120 with 86cfm fan, pc4400 memory(so I don't think the memory is holding me up). Abit is-7
 
OK, what are your temps on the CPU right now?
What is your MEM voltage set to?
DO you have AGP/PCI lock enabled on the board?

If they seem reasonable, I would suggest trying to up the voltage by .05 or even .1 and see if that helps at all. From my experience, when overclocking my 3.0C, I had to bump the voltage to 1.65 or 1.7 to get it stable around 260. You must be careful though because an increase in V will create a lot more heat on the CPU.
 
about 48 degrees load right now, 2.6vdimm, yes agp/pci is loocked at 66/33mhz. I might try upping the voltage and seeing if that gets me any farther, could my memory voltage be holding me back at all?
 
I would set the MEM voltage to 2.7 at least.

The problem is that at 48C load, I am not sure you have much room to push the cpu any further. It sounds like you need to up the CPU voltage to gain some stability at those FSB speeds. The problem is that upping it even .05V will most definitely push you over 50C. Give it a try and see what happens, but be ready to stop the show if you see the temps getting too hot.

I am not sure on that particular board, but I thought that ABIT is notorious for being off on their temp readings.
 
Yes I have heard that both asus and abit can be off by as much as 7 degrees.
 
Well Highway, maybe you can shed some light on this for him as far as your Voltage settings since you have the same family of Mobos/CPUs.
 
well he has a northwood and i have a prescott, and he has in is-7 and i have an IC7-G, but i will tell you all what i have, its bound to help somehow.

my temps at these settings are about 40 idle and 60 load, and thats after subtracting 10 degrees from abit eq...

ps soon to be water cooling rig for 4ghz + :D

EDIT: memory is 2.7 volts
 
:drool:....these 3.5+ Intels are making me want one....lol, but i'll be happy with a Athlon 2600-M :D

but i don't think its your memory.....250x15 is about 3.75, so u might be hitting a wall on ur processor, it might not be able to go any higher...but maybe that's just me? lol

i would try upping the voltage, or get some better cooling (not sure what you have now, sorry if i missed that), and if not, then sit back and relax on ur kickass system :p
