Well, i am in desperate need of some help...

My 2yr old decided to do a little art work on my Dell 19" LCD with a green sharpie. Anybody got any ideas what will get this off without destroying the LCD?

Thanks!!!!

That's one hell of a situation you got into...

I would suggest "Goo Gone". It's a citrus based cleaner that SHOULDN'T harm the anti-glare coating. (I would still use it very sparingly)

Note I said Goo Gone and NOT Goof-Off. Goof Off is a Xylene based cleaner and while it will most definately get rid of the marker instantly it could also damage the LCD coating.

And for god's sake hide the sharpies from now on, those things are dangerous in the hands of a toddler!

Thanks guys!!! It looks like there might be hope.

Can't turn your back on those savages for a minute!

Good to see you have "experience"!!

Great pic!!

I have twin 2yr olds (boy, girl). I could hide those sharpies in the back of some deserted cabinet drawer and they would STILL find them.

I think toddlers have a 6th scense when it comes to finding implements of destruction!

Same here. I caught my two year old (well almost two( standing in my chair with his palm on my LCD's screen bouncing into it. The screen was blanked and it was bright white when he would bounce into it. Needless to say he couldn't sit down for a while.

My three year old I caught standing on the desk itself reaching for the controllers I hide on top the hutch part. He fell of the desk when he saw come around the corner and I figured that was punishment enought for him.

I had something kinda like that happen to me except it was my little sister who was 4 at the time. She threw a brand-new $50 Halo XBOX Game across my parque wood floor and scratched it up so badly, not even a disc repair kit could not repair it well enough to make it work!!. You are right. You must keep an eye on them 24/7. ;)

You could try Acetone

Not trying to be a dick or anything but.....please don't use acetone.. I promise you'll be sorry..
I've tried that, and no matter how sparingly you use it, it will leave a mark.

I have used iKlear Apple polish, it works on permanant marker and spry paint.

It takes some work, and time, but it works.

I agree, do NOT use acetone. It will melt the plastic coating of your LCD or anything plastic. Try soap and water on a cloth.

Sometimes you can use a dry erase marker to remove permanent marker.
Just draw over the permanent marker with the dry-erase, then wipe it clean with a damp cloth.

I would watch out with goo gone That stuff melts plastics I would try a very small area first
That goes for anything else you try to get it off with. That's a tough one. My daughter nows since she was 1 not even to touch the screen. She is 4 and knows how to get to the program's she likes she loves to type gibberish in word

You might consider lemon oil. Its used to moisten rosewood guitar fretboards, but I have used it for cleaning ink off stuff. Never tried it on an LCD, but its not going to harm it. You can find it at any guitar shop.

Laugh if you wish, but baby wipes do remove ink with a bit of elbow grease and do no damage. First hand experience.

I started with the baby wipes. They started to get it off, but i was afraid to push REALLY hard to get it off.

So i'm sitting there with a green baby wipe now, monitor only slightly better, and i look over and see a bottle of the kids bubbles. It says, "non-toxic, non-staining, etc", so i say what the hell, give it a try.

I had to rub kinda hard, but the green slowly dissappeared.

As far as i can tell, no dammage was done.

Go to your local Walmart (or wherever) and get a bottle of the unusual rubbing alcohol that's made of ethanol (cheap because it's doped with methanol to keep you from drinking it). It gets rid of Sharpie without any effort. Even on LCDs. It's just better than Isopropanol.
