So I have a Macbook pro that basically died. It's got 2x8GB dimms(or are they still called sodimms?) inside. I've seen quite a few places on the internet that have those little laptop-to-desktop ram inserts.

Can anyone actually recommend one that works well? Is it even worth it to try and do this?

I say it will not be worthwhile. Just sell your 2x8GB sodimms. If you need more ram in your desktop buy a new 1.5V 2x8G DDR3 dimm kit for $90 or less.

There are some adapters online. I've never used them but seems if you get a quality adapter it would work. Knowing how memory can be sensitive to its interface, personally i wouldn't do it.

Last I looked those adapters were about the same cost as a new memory stick.
