2x512MB or 4x256MB

Having 4 chips is not any faster. With 2 chips, you get the same amount of memory, and still have 2 open slots. You also increase your chances of having a DOA memory chip if you get 4 instead of 2.

According to Anandtech, on the 865 and 875 chipsets, having 4 chips is minimally faster (less than 5%). The negatives you bring up far outweigh this. 4 chips will also not overclock as well as 2 larger ones. If I had the choice/money, I wouldn't use any stick under 1024MB but right now 2x512MB is "in".
