2x4, or 4x2?

I'm seeking to purchase 8gb of memory for a high-end system I'm building, but I'm curious whether I ought to go with 2 4gb sticks, or 4 2gb sticks. Is there any difference performance-wise, or so force? Are there any particular brands I ought to go for nowadays, or product lines? Corsair and G.Skill are the two I'd initially peek at, and I'd likely be going with DDR3 1600 just for the sake of it.
 
Yeah, there's no advantage to going 2GB x 4... 4GB x 2 FTW.. you leave yourself free slots for future upgrades instead of wasting cash on sticks you'll have to dump later..
