Alrighty folks, I have a Q6700 OC'd to 3.12ghz.
My motherboard is a P5B Deluxe wifi/AP (amazing, love it), [P965 chipset for reference].

The mobo has a 2X4 cpu power connector , and right now, and for more than a year, I have had only the 2X2 plugged in. Never had an issue. Should I plug the second half of that connector in, or should I leave well enough alone?
 
I'd plug it in, its obviously not needed, but if you have the plug, give it the juice :)
 
Either way will work fine, but you may as well plug in the other part. It certainly won't harm anything.
