So like stated above I'm having issues with this setup. The 8500 seems to occasionally shut off? I'm using vantage physx benchmark to test this. one run it worked flawless cpu score jumped from 25k to 50k, next run I noticed the ops dropped from 95-100 to 40-45. score came out around 26k and the gpu in precision showed no percentage of use.

Running win 7 x64 + 196.21 drivers

any ideas? could it be that it's a bfg and my 260's are evga and i'm using precision to oc the 260's "it wont allow me to oc the 8500"

8500GT is way too slow for Physx and you don't need an additional Physx card with that setup anyway IMO.

pulled the 8500 and put in my third 260. My case isnt large enough for 3 way sli so it was just big enough to stick in the 4x slot. But now nvidia control panel wont let me select the card for physx thats not bridged in sli.

thow out the 8500 and run sli 260s only.

yeah figured that out, albeit the 8500 did do about 20ops more than the i7 could handle alone, putting the 3rd 260 in there in the 4x slot bump the total score up and managed to do 160ops by itself.

agree'd its a waste to run the 8500.. if you really want a dedicated physX card and dont have the space for triple SLI then get something like the 8800GT or 9800GT.. 9800GT will overclock better then the 8800GT but performance will be the same at stock..

Wait, what? The 8800GT and the 9800GT are the same card; they just slapped a new sticker on the 8800GT and started selling it as the 9800GT. You can even cross-flash card's BIOS between them so you can run an 8800GT and a '9800GT' in SLI properly.

That said, overclocking doesn't seem to have a very big effect on PhysX performance. It's all about the number of steam processors.

I actually have an 8800gtx i could use instead too, may try it over the 260 and let the 260 get some real use.

true.. but there is a slight difference.. the 9800GT has the voltage mod already pre-done by nvidia where as the 8800GT doesnt.. so the 9800GT does overclock better.. that is the 1 and only difference between the cards.. and yes running the 9800GT bios on those cards that allow you to run the 9800GT bios will set the gpu voltage to the 9800GT setting.. i have one of the few cards that doesnt support the 9800GT bios but i already have my bios modified for the higher voltage..
