which will give me better framerates. cant afford a 5970, so im deciding to go with whatever will give me more gaming power at 1920x1200.

At 1920x1200, just one 5850 will do plenty and should be able to play most games on maxed settings for at least another year.

I am pleased with One 5870
No plans to SLI
No need for me at 1920x1200
Low power requirments
Less heat
Win

how does a 5850 compare to a 4850x2? they have a 4850x2 on newegg for 100 bucks cheaper than a 5850

it should be obvious the 2x 5850 will as long as you have a decent quad core CPU

Maybe but is it really worth it? It's not THAT much faster than a 5870 @ 1000 / 1300, yet you're spending $600-650 vs $400.

I just played this game, 2x 5850 is a fps monster but microstutter is a game killer for me, half the frame rate on a 5870 in crysis looks and plays so much smoother than micro stutter crossfire setup. I had 2 systems setup side by side to test this, its real and ruins the higher frame rate you get.

5870, then wait for the 5870 to drop in price later on to buy another for the same you'd spend on two 5850s right now. The 5870 is a beast of a card and can handle just about every game under the sun right now, and it's good to have the extra slot open when you actually need it.

single card is best.
overlock the snot out of it, and it will run good even in eyfinity setups.

I can play BC2 beta fine using a 5850.
5760x1080 low to medium settings I am a fragger so less eyecandy the better ;).
900/1000.
