Last summer I bought 2 2007WFPs and for whatever reason sold one of them this winter.
Now I am wanting to go back to dual monitors but would prefer something a little bit bigger, which brings me to my problem.
For about the same price as 2 2407WFPs I can get a single 3007WFP
Both, of course, have their pros and cons
I am a student and do a lot of homework, including CAD and a lot of excel spreadsheets, etc.
I am also the self-proclaimed king of web surfing, with 50 Firefox tabs open at the same time
I also game a little bit, but it definitely doesn't take over my life
Now, I realize how excessive this is for my purposes but hey, that's what it's all about

Anyway, if it was up to you, would you choose 2 2407WFPs or 1 3007WFP along side a 2007WFP S-IPS, and for what reasons?
I'm thinking I should just go big and not look back, but dual 24s offer a lot more space.

if you want to go dual why dont you just use a 2407 and a 2007? it would save you like 600$.. i have a 2007 and im also looking to jump up..

or buy the 3007 and get like a E228 ( since it wont be integral to be uber elite ) gives you a ton of realestate at a reasonble price.. or a 2407 and a E228..

All in all you have to remember, if you dont have high end gaming hardware.. also pushing the 3007 + anything else is going require to the dual link dvi cable.

Personally.. I think the 3007 would be the way to go simply because its more awe inspiring.. and you could use it for watching dvds etc.. no need for a TV then if you get/have a TV tuner card. However if you want to do console gaming on it.. the 2407 is the way to go.. because the 3007 doesnt have a scaler chip.

2560x1600 would afford you the ability to run a LOT of stuff on one monitor... Look at it like this.. cost/benefit analysis..

Price of option A, divided by the utility(satisfaction/enjoyment) you would get from option A.. ie all the perks youd like and value them up.

Price of option B/ divided by the utility youd get frmo option B.. same idea. and mark negatives against them to according to a scale..

Let the prospective money:enjoyment ratio decide for you :)

I have a 3007WFP at home and a dual monitor setup at work. It sounds like you're going to have a lot on your desktop at once so here's my take

On the 3007WFP, I tend to use it in two ways. There's "normal mode" where only pay attention to what's on the center of the screen and just alt-tab between my apps. In addition, I have little things on the edge of the screen like instant messenger, music play lists, widgets, etc. If I need to have multiple things to look at, I'd divide my screen into quadrants and each quadrant is kind of small which hurts the notion of having a big 30 incher.

On my dual monitor setup, it's easier to organize information. Typically, one monitor is just for communication (Outlook and Messenger) and the other one is where I do all my work. The down side of this is that I can't tell if something important happens on one screen if I'm focused on the other. Also, text is larger on the dual monitors which helps esp when browsing the web.

I know my description of how I use my setups is a little weird but hope it helps on your decision. Having used both kinds of setups, I think the decision you should make isn't how many total pixels you're getting per dollar. It should be what kind of information you're going to view and how you want it presented to you.

To the both of you, thanks a lot for the feedback.
I really get what you're both getting at and they're both points well taken.
I think, as it stands now, the 3007WFP + 2007WFP combo sounds the best.
The reason being is that, with a 3007WFP there is no want or desire to someday go bigger because, in the realm of LCD monitors, nothing else exists that's any bigger (unless you consider TVs, of course).

I would definitely go with the 3007WFP and then have the 2007WFP in portrait mode right beside it. You 'll have 2 identical looking monitors (except for size) and both S-IPS which will make it easier to calibrate them together. I have a single 2007 and if I could afford it (and really needed it:eek: ) that's exactly what I would do.

$1,800? It's $1,349 right now from Dell.
I think that's what I'll do, Kyle's setup looks really nice
Thanks guys

You already have a 2007wfp, which will compliment nicely in portrait mode with the 3007wfp.

Kyle's 3007 next to a 2005wfp. Hopefully this gives you a good idea what to expect :)

Wasn't it 3007 wfp and 2005 fp?
Since I don't have both, can only guess.
3007 has 2560 by 1600
2005 fp (in portrait mode) has 1200 by 1600
If 20ish was 2005 fpw, which has 1680 by 1050, it should be slightly off, compare to height of 3007. Right?

There is no "right" answer to this questions since everyone's needs and preferences are different. I just went from 2 x 20" to a 30" + 20" and I couldn't be happier. I know that I like this better than I'd like 2 x 24" for several reasons. First, the S-IPS High Color panel of the 30" is great for photography work which is why I bought it. It is also more natural to have the larger in the middle and one or more smaller LCDs to the sides, thus not giving you a bezel directly in the center of your view. Finally, I can use the larger 30" to do single task things on a much bigger display than the 24... such as viewing a full 13x19" print on the screen; playing a game at 30", etc.

That's what I'm planning to do. I just got 2x 2007WFP with S-IPS screens. As soon as I have the money, I'll get the 3007WFP-WC.
