would dual 2.4A xeon's be faster than 1 3.2E P4?

2.4A = 533 fsb 1mb cache
the 3.2E has 1mb cache and 800mhz fsb.

and i would be running them on a 875p chipset.

this will be for mostly gaming and some very minimal video editing.

price is not really an object and i wouldn't mind trying dual cpus.

Definatley. Now for video editing and encoding the Xeon might be faster a little bit depending on what software your running. If the app is multi-threaded the Xeon might be faster. But if so not by much due to the clock speed difference between the Xeon and the Prescott.

Have you seen the AMD MP? i saw one or 2 review of the AMD 250 killing Xeons on almost every test. Considering the amount of money invested when building a MP system, i'd look on both side (Intel & AMD). I may be wrong tho, but from what i remember they looked great.

i think you are refering to opterons :cool:

If you want to see a nice comparison between the Xeon and the P4 in equivalent speed, you really should check out this page over at 2CPU.com's review of the Xeon 3.2GHz with 2MB L3. In the article, the Xeon 3.2/2M was put up against the Xeon 3.2/1M, the P4 3.2 Northwood and the Opteron 246. I think you'd find the results interesting... :)
