I'm getting ready to put together some storage for our PHD Virtual backup devices and I am going to use the Rackable JBOD setup (http://unixsurplus.com/product/rackable-3u-16-bays-sata-sas-expander-w-lsi-8888elp-raid-card) as the bases. This limits me to 2TB drives for the moment so my choices are:

Seagate ST2000DM001
Hitachi GST Deskstar 7K3000
Seagate SV35.5 ST2000VX000
Western Digital Red WD20EFRX (but I need 7)

This is ONLY for backup storage which then gets sent to tape every evening. End of year budgeting will allow for a 6GB/s RAID card and some 4-3TB drives so this is a stopgap due to space issues and the prices for Dell Enterprise drives.
