I would probably advise a VirtualBox VM running Linux, in which case you probably want NUMA on/node interleaving off

My next project is learning Linux/Ubuntu Folding. I'll be switching this machine over within two weeks.


Does enabling IOMMU (Advanced/SR5960 Configuration) make any difference?
What about Hyper Transport settings, which are at default right now? Sorry, no details on HT unless I reboot in to the BIOS - the manual does not show the options.
 
The only setting on a G34 board I have every messed with is the node interleaving setting.

A little bit of quick research tells me IOMMU isn't going to help anything as it has more to do with your memory interacting with I/O devices. HT is usually the frequency you adjust to overclock AMD chips. I'd be interested to know what the options are for this one.

One thing about settings like this - it never hurts to try them and see if they make a difference.

I tried IOMMU and it made no difference whatsoever.

HT options are with [defaults):

  • HT Extended Address [Disabled]

  • HT3 Link Power State [Auto]

  • UnitID Clumping [Auto]

  • HT Link Tristate [Auto]

  • NB Deempasies Level [Disabled]
