I killed my budget. I am thinking about making a few corrections. I ordered a 1900xt amoung other hardware. I play in 1600x1200, 2aa and 16af, then all the pretty option peaked out.

That being said, would I be in a lot of pain by getting the x1800xt 256 over the x1900xt 512 keeping in mind my sytem will have 2 gigs of ram? Ill save $100 doing so.

Would like some opinions. And I can't find a good card review site that had most of the nvidia 7x series compared to the ati x18/1900xt series for a majority of games and other stuff. Big article, anyone know the link?

Teh x1900xt is teh pwnz0rs. If you have an lcd with 1600x1200 native resolution, you are really castrating yourself, unless it scales well. If you can reduce your resolution to 1280x1024, the x1800xt is sufficient.

I replaced my 710t with this 204b specifically for 1600x1200. Im just wondering if the x1900xt handles the graphics I want $100 better or not. Some of the benchies I found show them to be very very close. I don't want to pay for extra performance I don't use. But you hit it, you don't think the x1800xt can handle 16x12 2aa and 16af for all the gameage out atm?

In that case you NEED the 1900xt. 1600x1200 is the resolution that actually starts to utilize 512mb gddr memory. On some games, xfire x1900xt/xtx is barely enough to handle maxed out graphics on high resolutions.

The graphics memory isn't that important to me, I've always thought of it as overrated, your getting 80 to 90% of your performance from your core.

Heh, I noticed your sig, no insult but you have one funky rig.

7900gt for overclockability or some other reason?

The only way I can see someone choosing ati over nvidia is because of prices. If you opt for nvidia, I suggest you get an evga 7900gt. You can use it for a good 2-3 months before the first batch of dx10 cards. If you don't see the next batch, you can always step up to a 7900gtx. If you do want a card that gives optimal performance for the price, the x1800xt is the way to go.
It overclocks much more easily than the 7900gt due to volt mods availiable via software. Remember, only the x1800xt 256mb is a good price for the money, if you opt for the 512 version, you might as well go x1900xt for $60-70 more. Even if you don't find 512mb gRAM a necessity for your high res configuration, you definitely won't regret it when more graphically intensive games come out.
On a side note, why is my rig funky?

stick with the x1900xt unless u really need the $100
btw how much did u pay for the x19xt

I'd stick with the X1900xt IMHO...hell, if you can swing it...lol, get the XTX :D

seriously, the XT will be fine. and if you are lucky, and the XT turns out to have 1.1ns memory on it, you may be able to re-flash it to a XTX.

Get the 1900XT and flash it to the XTX. You can then feel better knowing that you got the XTX for the price of the XT. :D

Why would you risk damaging your card with a failed bios flash when you can just increase the voltage through riva tuner and attain the same clocks? I'm pretty sure the only difference between the xt and xtx is that the xtx has a slightly better stock cooler and it has a stock voltage. Other than that, they are the same thing in architecture and materials.

I think that you are going to put yourself in a risky situation if you up the voltages, just get the XT, overclock it to XTX speeds and your will be a happy camper. Dont go messing around with the voltages, that is how cards live short lives.

I dont think that the XTX's have better coolers on them, I think that the difference is the ram on the cards, XTX has 1.1 ram whilst the XT's have the 1.2 ram, though most (including mine) XT's have the 1.1 rams.

I got a new soundcard for my rig and coupled with my XT it plays games VERY nicely, but hey YMMV
