So I chose a Raptor over the SCSI setup and was wondering what I could do with my current old drive. I plan to use the Raptor for my o/s and different programs and my old drive for storing things. If I still keep my old drive hooked up and use it to store things, would it slow my system down overall?
 
Nor sure I understand your question, but if you went raptor your os will show faster speeds, and the old driv can be used for data storage. You should not see any delay in your operating speeds, but you will be limited to the speed of the old drive when accessing the data on it. I dont think it will mater at all, other than the drain on you p/s
 
Two drive setups are often faster than single drive ones, e.g. because when you're accessing the 2nd drive, if the OS needs to access the OS drive (for the page file, etc.), it can be done simultaneously without incurring additional seeks and interrupting the intended data transfer.

Now if your old drive is of interest to historical societies, then of course using it in any way could slow you down, when it would be slower than using the new drive and incurring additional seeks.
