Got my A-XP 2400+ up and running just now. It's not o/c'd yet, but I am going to wait to do that. Finally back in the fold again, however my only gripe is the fact that it is so fucking LOUD. I might have to suck up and get a Zalman CNPS7000 or something...anyone have one they can sell?

A little more on topic, I told FAH to not take advantage of SSE and SSE2, is that a good thing?

Generaly you want to let if take advantage of SSE if the processor supports it. SSE gives it a huge boost in speed.

Was there a reason you thought you should tell it "No" just curious. Don't the A-XP have SSE?

If you want to change it back, create a shortcut to the client and add the -configonly command. Then shutdown folding, and then run the shortcut and that'll let you edit the config again. Then you can restart folding and be all set.

Tinkers don't use any boost so it wont make any difference in terms of PpD if any is on or off when running them.

Gromacs/Ambers/GbGromacs uses SSE boost and you will get around a 100% increase in PpD over running with no boost.

DGromacs use SSE2 boost and you will get around a 150% increase in PpD over running with just SSE boost and about a 300% increase in PpD over running with no boost.

Hence the -forceasm switch to make sure the boost is turned back on after a bad shut down.

Luck......... :D

could have sworn the FAQ told me not to have it set...might have misread it.

anywho, i got it up and running. it asked me a weird question - how much memory should be used or something to that effect. It told me to do 991, so I did. Other than that, I am doing project 2306 a GB Gromac...

That memory question was added in there because there was a QMD protein that took up to 500mb of memory, where a standard wu only takes around 30-50mb. They would only give those QMD to people that had 1 gb of memory, and you had to have all the correct flags set and whatnot, but that flag was added so one could say that they only had 256 or 512mb and then they wouln't get the QMDs. They did give bonus points out for running the QMDs, since they took a lot of ram.

The calculations for the QMD project was just finished, so that question is not really that important, since the current proteins don't take that much ram.

It's always good to know some history around the different options so here goes: The flag was added as a procautionary measure one day after Stanford's wu assignment servers ran out of normal wus and started assigning these memory monsters to normal computers that had less than 1gb of ram - bad since the computers would almost not respond since the memory was pegged so high. This was a complete accident, but it created a big stirr, but Stanford fixed the issue right away so it shouldn't happen again.
