2gb upgrade hampers overclock?

I have a DFI Lanparty Nforce 4 Ultra board, and up until today I was running at 2.5 ghz (9x 278 mhz htt), with a memory divider of 7:10 (leaving the ram at just below 200 mhz).

Today I got a new kit of 2 gb corsair cas2 xms stuff (2x 1gb sticks), and when I put it in, it didn't go past the verifying DMI pool, it just rebooted. I know the ram is good at cas 2.5 to 220 mhz (where I am at now). Any ideas how I can get the memory divider to work again?

Thanks!

You might need to change your memory from 1T to 2T for the 1gig ea modules.

That didn't do it :( I switched the CPC to disabled, restarted, and it rebooted before it got to the verifying DMI pool data again.

CPC isn't 1T or 2T timing though...

I had this problem after I got my second 1gb pair of patriot xblk... I had to run 2T on anything passed like 233 I think.

Having 2GB puts an extra strain on your memory controller as well so you might not see as high of an over clock.

But I love my 2GB upgrade :) BF 2 runs like a whole new game :)

Try resetting your cmos then setting everything up again. If that doesn't work you might have a bad stick of ram, run memtest and look for errors.

I did memtest @ 220 mhz, it passed (using test 5)

I don't think it's the memory, I'll reset the cmos and report back

resetting cmos did it! Woot!

Thanks so much!

Now that it works, should I try and run it at cas 2.5 220 mhz or cas 2 200 mhz with a bigger divider?

Try both, bechmark it with Sandra and Everest and decide which has the biggest performance increase from there. Pay attention to the latency number in Everest along with the speeds since if it takes longer to feed data through even if it is marginally faster it doesn't mean the performance is any better although generally the higher the read/write speeds the lower the latency numbers. Anything else would be an anomaly.

Sorry but Corsair is whack.

G.skill 4got model but baby blue ones

My friend brang over his 2x512mb TCCC Samsung modules, I added them to mine for an hour to test out Battlefield 2, it definetly makes a universe of difference!

He had his RAM over because he wanted to make sure it wasn't dead, he didn't have his PSU yet, had to get a new one.

Another thing about the DFI Lanparty - the memory slots you use can matter a LOT. And the BIOS rev you use can change this behavior for better or worse. I don't fully understand why this is, but I have a LanParty with 2gb and in the orange slots at one point, running my memory near stock or maybe even stock, it wouldn't even post. It may have been the memory I had prior to this memory and I forget which slots had problems, but just keep in mind the slots can have an effect.

You might check dfi-street to see which slots your new memory is reported to work best in.
