2D Surround problem!

So I'm all excited and want to try this out and I get home fast from work.

Turns out there's a problem. When I activate my monitors in surround, the monitor connected to my second 480 artifacts on the desktop with rainbow colors.

So I begin troubleshooting and the first thing I do is turn surround and SLI off. Voila with 3 monitors active no artifacts at all. So I figure this either has to be the monitor specifically in surround, or the drivers since switching 480 #1 and 480 #2 logistically gives me 3 monitors but the same artifacts, this time on 480 #1's monitor instead.

I plug in my brother's Dell P2310H (I have 24'' Hanns-G monitors) to my second 480 and it does not display at all in surround. The Dell monitor gives me the error that I am running in something that it cannot display. It asks me to put it back to 1920x1080 60 hertz. So I am officially at a loss and deeply sad. Can anyone shed some light on this weirdness?

Try disabling SLI and then renabling Surround, saw a little wierdness myself at one point with the nV Control Panel saying something to the effect that my monitor wouldn't work with Surround and doing this fixed the problem.

It's also possible your second card is bad. In SLI many times the lead card will mask a bad card.

A crap. I just plugged in 3 Dell P2310H's and it worked perfectly. Suffice to say I think this particular brand of monitor will not work. Le sigh, excuse to buy 3x120hz acer's?

Ahh, you were using different monitors. The monitors need to be nearly identical to work. Same refresh rate, resolution, and sync polarity.

I'm betting your one monitor had a different sync polarity, so it was receiving information that was tailored for the other monitors, and simply can't use that format.

Nope found the problem. The HannsG monitors do not have DVI-in, so I was using the included DVI-D to HDMI cables. Apparently Nvidia does not support HDMI-DVI adapters, even native cables. I switched to 3xVGA and now it works fine. Although I have to go buy a DVI extension cable now because my radiator is cockblocking one of the vga-dvi adapters.

So a warning to anyone, do not use adapters with this.

Could you test if bezel management works when you use monitors of different type?

I wonder if the HDMI to DVI cable will work.. I have the dual pcb 295 with 2 DVI and 1 HDMI.

I tried a mix of Acer 23, Dell P2310H, the HannsG241 and when you use different monitors, either the monitor or the control panel warns you that a display resolution cannot be made.

I am now using the same 3x HannsG 241's and was also able to get it working with 3x Dell P2310H's that my brother had for his crossfire 5870 eyefinity configuration.

Sort of off topic, but after playing around with eyefinity crossfire and my GTX 480 surround, surround is easier to work with. A++ Nvidia!

Interesting. Thanks for trying.

Thanks. A bit disappointing that you cannot mix monitors of different brands. Its good that its easier with surround though. Lets hope that ATI follows up and this develops into a good healthy competition on creating the best solution!

Agreed. I had hoped (still hope since this is only one source!) nVidia would have gotten multiple brands of monitors working to help competition. Either way, we are entering a golden age of 3-monitor gaming! It's awesome!

That sucks though; I wonder what the issue is with mixing brands? Polling rate or response time or what?

And I thought Eyefinity does allow mixing different monitor brands. So Surround does not allow this, or it's just that bezel correction doesn't work?

Eyefinity does allow mixing of models but the bezel management is disabled if there is too much of a difference. So far for this one test, with beta drivers (have to bear that in mind, still) it appears that it won't work at all on nVidia. We need more testers and an official response from nVidia (Kyle has asked in the [H] Evaluation thread).

Thats true and for the 3X screens of the same type, I guess that many would buy 3 new screens while their at it anyway, since bezel management makes a world of difference IMO and for that you need 3X similar screens in any case. :)

Sucks because I had 3 24" Dell monitors but one is a different model so bezel management is a no for me with my ATI cards. I guess I'm in the minority of having 3 monitors already when I went 3-monitor gaming.

wow, a death blow to NV Surround if true

I wouldn't conclude that based on my experience alone. It could be the case that it could work with different monitors just not these. More people should try it, but I think most people with multi-monitors for surround probably have the same ones.

I don't. :) I have 2 U2410'S and have swapped between a E248WFP and 2407WFP-HC for my third. All 4 panels are Dell 24's, but clearly not the same panels.

Eyefinity is definitely something where people will piecemeal if at all possible.

Hi,

i will be in the same situation, the monitors that i will buy only have HDMI and D-sub have 2 gtx480

The monitor is this http://pt.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ghv7C7RLUqEyemTO

The image is great and i saw a lot, while i liked JUST another 2 once they were connected to a single pc instead of being in a hub sharing a connection with various monitors the colours turn out very saturated.

So you bought 3 dvd-i dual link to vga adapters and solve your problem?
